Looking back on 2021, Weidmüller has achieved remarkable results and we are very pleased with the achievements of the past year. In 2021, Weidmüller generated a turnover of 960 million euros, an increase of 21 percent compared to the previous year. "The global recession due to the global coronavirus pandemic was the main reason for the decline in our sales in 2020, and the results in 2021 recovered as expected. Not only did we deliver on our sales expectations, but we exceeded them," said Volker Bibelhausen, Spokesperson of the Executive Board and Chief Skills Officer. The economic situation in 2021 has stabilized compared to the previous year, significantly increasing the demand for Weidmüller products and solutions.
Long-term investment in various fields
The long-term investment in various areas will continue to lay a solid foundation for the company's steady growth in the future. In 2021, Weidmüller invested 56 million euros in research and development (around 6% of turnover). Most of the investment was invested in the construction of a new logistics center. Weidmüller is undergoing a logistics revolution through the new 72,000-square-metre logistics centre near Eisenach. The construction period of the center is 1.5 years and will be completed by the end of 2022. In line with Weidmüller's pioneering spirit, the logistics center is largely automated with state-of-the-art technology and equipment. End-to-end digitalization and networking to deliver more agile and efficient freight and customer service. "Our forward-looking logistics concept allows us to future-proof and respond to all kinds of logistics requirements at any time," explains Volker Bibelhausen, who adds: "This is how we are setting our course for the future and for our customers even more." ”
Opening of the new premises of the Weidmüller Training Centre
The new Weidmüller Training Centre building in Detmold, completed in 2021, will provide a hands-on space for more than 120 science apprentices and dual students from all areas of business and skills. Workshops, machinery, "new writings" rooms, training and innovation form the heart of the new building. 30 employees guarantee the qualification cultivation, training and educational cooperation of young talents, and social science services. "The new training centre is an important pillar of Weidmüller's future. The cultivation of young people is not only our social responsibility, but also plays a pivotal role in ensuring our highly skilled talent team. André Sombecki, Chief Financial Officer of Weidmüller, explains.
Funding new skills and new markets
Tackling the challenges of today's world, such as climate change, hygiene, food and raw material supply, requires innovative ideas and solutions with electrical skills. In the process of developing new ideas and solutions, Weidmüller pays particular attention to topics that can be further developed. We are one of the pioneers in wind and photovoltaic power generation, suggesting resource-saving production processes and sustainable use of materials. Dr. Timo Berger, Chief Marketing Officer at Weidmüller, highlighted Weidmüller's sustainable development activities and stated: "Sustainable development operations are in our DNA. As a family business with a long tradition, we are determined to take on sustainable development obligations and social responsibilities that go far beyond those stipulated by law for the benefit of future generations. ”
In addition, Weidmüller supports the further development of the viable, for example, by proposing the establishment of the "AquaVentus" sponsorship association. The fund aims to decisively characterize and advance the skills of offshore wind to hydrogen, an environmentally friendly gas. Green hydrogen, as a zero-emission alternative to conventional energy sources, will play a key role in the energy transition, helping to reduce CO2 emissions.
Completed in 2019, the Customer Skills Centre (CTC) in Detmold covers an area of approximately 14,000 square meters and can accommodate 650 employees.
1 billion euros
The Executive Board stated: "As envisaged, we are returning to normalcy and, as such, we expect further easing of freight issues in the second half of the year." Weidmüller is optimistic about the current year. With a 20% increase in turnover last year, the Detmold-based family business expects to break the 1 billion mark in 2022. "In the future, we will continue to focus on meeting the increasing demand for our products and solutions in an agile and reliable manner." Dr. Timo Berger, Chief Marketing Officer at Weidmüller, indicates:
