Before the article begins, let's take a test:
Oil and aviation fuelIn addition to oil, which of the following can also be used as a raw material for production?
A peanut
B sunflower seeds
Capsule, jatropha and seaweed
I didn't expect it! It turns out that in addition to oil, bio can also be used as a raw material for refining diesel and aviation fuel.
What are the benefits of doing so?
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global carbon dioxide emissions in 2019 were 33 billion tons, of which oil and gas accounted for 18.2 billion tons, accounting for 55%[1]. It can be seen that the problem caused by one-time fossil energy has become imminent.
The use of a new technology to refine bioraw materials into energy fuels seems to be a new way to "reduce carbon".
On the occasion of this year's World Clean Earth Day, we will reveal to you the secret of Honeywell's black technology to "reduce the burden" on the earth!
It's hard not to support such renewable diesel!
For fuel production, in the past, oil was mainly used to produce oil, but as the demand for fuel and the call for reducing greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, how to solve this seemingly dilemma?
In fact, there is also a way, you must have heard of "turning waste into treasure", and we can also start from "turning waste into oil"! But it's easier said than done, and the production cost can be prohibitive, leaving aside the technical issues for the time being.
In order to solve these problems in fuel production and use, the UOP single-stage EcofiningTM process technology was born!
Compared with petroleum-based diesel, Honeywell's UOP process uses raw materials made from non-edible natural oils and fats and waste oils as raw materials, so as to achieve "waste to oil", and the resulting green diesel production cost is lower, and sulfur and NOx emissions are also lower, which also means that greenhouse gas emissions can also be significantly reduced!
Green aviation fuel? Salute!
In addition to cars on the ground, airplanes flying in the sky also need to be supported by greener and renewable fuels. But it would be nice if it could be "turned into oil" like green diesel.
Arrangement! For aviation fuel, it is not only necessary to "turn waste into oil", but also to produce fuel that meets strict aviation fuel indicators.
Let's talk about green aviation fuel made with Honeywell's UOP two-stage EcofiningTM process technology.
The UOP two-stage EcofiningTM process technology is based on conventional refining hydroprocessing technology. It works by adding hydrogen to remove oxygen from the feedstock and then further refining the product to achieve the desired specifications. Compared to petroleum-based fuels, green aviation fuel emits lower greenhouse gas emissions, is also "waste to oil", and requires lower costs.
What is the difference between the two-stage EcofiningTM process and the single-stage process?
The main difference is in the reactors, the two-stage EcofiningTM process is equipped with two reactors and is designed to meet the needs of both new and retrofit projects. The quality of diesel produced meets or exceeds the most stringent aviation fuel performance standards and can be made from a wide range of sustainable feedstocks.
Of course, it also doesn't require any modifications to the aircraft or engines, and can be used directly! Such a process, I call it Salute!
The "Refinery of the Future" was born!
In fact, the purpose of UOP process research and development is not only limited to green fuels, but also to contribute to the low-carbon transformation of refineries.
Because even a "refining and chemical integration" refinery can only convert 50%-70% of crude oil into high value-added petrochemical products under normal circumstances. Honeywell is committed to helping customers leverage their existing infrastructure to convert crude oil into petrochemicals – renewable fuels – at a higher percentage to achieve a truly sustainable, green and low-carbon "refinery of the future" goal!
In the future, although it sounds far away, I believe that with the continuous blessing of innovative black technology, it will be easier to achieve a win-win situation of environmental protection and efficiency.
As a company that has committed to achieving carbon neutrality across all business operations and facilities by 2035, Honeywell is committed to helping more industries and companies achieve their green transformation goals by providing innovative products and services.
