The new system is 30% lighter, more reliable, and can be customized for a wide range of aircraft
Shanghai, China, Jan. 28, 2021 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) recently introduced a new generation of aircraft cabin pressure monitoring systems that can be used on a wide range of aircraft types. The new system is all-electric and lightweight, allowing it to be used in both business and regional aviation.
The Cabin Pressure Monitoring System (CPCMS) helps maintain and monitor the air pressure inside the aircraft. The system is installed on any aircraft, including commercial or business jets, that flies at high altitudes and requires pressurized cabin air. The system regulates the air entering the cabin to keep the cabin environment safe and comfortable during high-altitude flights. In addition, the system manages the rate of change in air pressure to avoid discomfort for passengers during the climb and descent of the aircraft.
"After listening to our customers, we found that most of the systems currently in use still rely on decades-old technology, and it is clear that the industry needs a technology refresh." Tom Hart, vice president and general manager of Honeywell Aerospace Climate Control Systems, said, "We moved quickly and developed a new digital system. Compared to products on the market today, this new system is lighter, more reliable, and less expensive to certify. ”
The new fourth-generation system is fully electrified and has built-in detection capabilities to detect and report faults or problems, including manual backup parts of the system. As system reliability increases, aircraft operators undertake less system maintenance. The system further improves the accuracy and response speed of the sensors, resulting in better control of cabin pressure and a more comfortable cabin environment.
The new generation system can be adapted to a wide range of aircraft, and the control software can be customized according to customer needs. The entire system weighs less than 6 pounds (about 2.72 kilograms), which is 30% lighter than the previous generation system, and is equipped with a new, smaller digital controller to accommodate further upgrades in the future.
Honeywell has entered into a partnership agreement with Piaggio Aerospace to provide the system for integration into the new P.180 Avanti Evo aircraft under development. Deliveries are expected to begin in the third quarter of this year, with the first aircraft equipped with the new system expected to enter service in the first half of 2022.
Honeywell has more than 75 years of experience in pressure control systems since the first aircraft cabin pressure regulator was put into service, and today has more than 20,000 Honeywell systems in flight on aircraft worldwide. As a long-established avionics manufacturer and integrator, Honeywell has the experience to keep its systems running smoothly and ensuring that aircraft are certified smoothly.
