Project Background
At present, electronic products such as mobile phones, computers, and IPads have become the standard in people's lives, which also promotes the rapid development of the electronic manufacturing industry. PCB (printed circuit board) is an important component in electronic products, and with the development of electronic products towards high-end and miniaturization, the requirements for PCBs are getting higher and higher. Currently, PCB manufacturers are accelerating the development of thinner, lighter, and higher-density FPCs (flexible circuit boards).
The SMT process is an important part of the FCB production process, mainly through the SMT equipment with various functions is mounted on the fixed tag corresponding to the FPC with high precision (the tag is pre-made by the SMT program through the coordinate diagram, tag diagram, and BOM motherboard assembly material list). In the past, due to cost considerations and the low popularity of automation skills, this part of the operation was mostly completed by manual operation, but this often led to problems such as low product qualification rate and poor quality stability.
A PCB manufacturing company chose Delta's SCARA industrial robot station processing plan to replace the traditional human operation industry to carry out FPC film tearing and pasting operations, which effectively reduced the probability of product rejection, improved product quality, and increased production power.
Project plan
In response to the process characteristics of FCB's production, Delta provided multiple sets of robotic operation station processing plans. Each treatment plan consists of three Delta SCARA industrial robots DRS40L series, IO interposer boards, HMI, light source, etc. In the meantime, Delta's SCARA industrial robot is undoubtedly the core of the plan. SCARA industrial robot DRS40L series has excellent speed, accuracy, linearity and verticality, etc., which can provide sensor-free compliance control functions, comply with the error of flexible circuit boards in electronic manufacturing, quickly and accurately complete the placement operation, greatly reduce the scrap rate caused by operator fatigue, help enterprises improve production power, and thus reduce labor costs. Together, DRS40L also has the characteristics of diversified lessons and intuitive lessons, simple and easy-to-use program editing, etc., which is more applicable and more integrated with industrial robot products with equal functions on the market.
In each set of robot operation station processing plan, one robot grabs and places the FPC on the basis of establishing the user's coordinate system of the unloading carrier board, and tears off the adhesive film of the FPC, and then the other two robots carry out the placement operation. It only takes 1.5 sec for the three robots to grasp each FPC, and the positioning accuracy of the film tearing robot is ±0.1mm, and the positioning accuracy of the two robots for placement operations can be as high as ±0.05mm.
During the implementation of the project, the Delta team encountered the problem of overlapping the working areas of the two robots for the first time. After a series of optimizations, the problem of collision avoidance and consistency of coordinate system between the two robots was finally solved.
Project Summary
By selecting Delta's SCARA industrial robot integration plan and using robots instead of manual placement operations, a placement machine can save 8 laborers for the production enterprise and greatly improve the product qualification rate. Together, this is also a typical application of Delta's robot products in high-precision machining, proving that Delta's SCARA products are fully capable of electronic production in such occasions where high precision and speed are required.
