Functionally, IGBT is a circuit switch, which has the advantage of being controlled by voltage, with small full voltage drop and high withstand voltage. It is used in the order of tens to hundreds of volts and tens to hundreds of amperes. And the IGBT does not have to be mechanically buttoned, it is controlled by a computer. Therefore, with IGBT switches, a class of circuits can be designed, and the IGBT can be controlled by the computer to turn the communication electricity on the power supply side into direct current at a given voltage, or turn various electricity into communication electricity of the required frequency for the load. This type of circuit is generally called a changer.

IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) is a composite fully controlled voltage-driven power semiconductor device composed of BJT (Bipolar Transistor) and MOS (Insulated Gate Field Effect Transistor), which has the advantages of both the high input impedance of MOSFET and the low on-voltage drop of GTR. The GTR full voltage drops, the current carrying density is large, but the driving current is large. MOSFETs have very little drive power and fast switching speeds, but they have a large turn-on voltage drop and a small current-carrying density. IGBT summarizes the advantages of the above two devices, the driving power is small and the full voltage drops. It is very suitable for use in converter systems with DC voltage of 600V and above, such as communication motors, inverters, switching power supplies, lighting circuits, traction drives, etc.
