Franz Haas, the founder of the Bühler Group, invented the first wafer machine as early as the end of the 40s of the 20th century. Today, its subsidiaries are spread all over the world. In the wafer area of Leobendorf's consumer food division, 700 employees are engaged in development, design and production, as well as sales, service, maintenance and spare parts management.
According to industry insiders, every second of industrially produced wafers around the world are baked with Franz Haas wafers from Bühler. Therefore, all customized equipment must be highly flexible and, more importantly, must meet the specific safety standards of all countries. That's why the Austria wafer specialist relies on a burner version with PNOZmulti 2, a configurable small safety controller, to safely control and monitor their ovens. After all, the TÜV-certified burner modules in the software tool PNOZmulti Configurator are flexible and can be used worldwide for a wide range of customized machine configurations.
Combustion furnace in the controller
PNOZmulti 2 is a complete solution for functional safety and furnace control tasks in one system; These tasks were previously performed by a separate furnace controller. This is quite a challenge, because monitoring involves complex control sequences: At the heart of every wafer line is the oven, which can be up to 35 meters long, depending on the product and plant configuration. Heating is provided by a gas long-tube burner. The most important task of the furnace controller is to monitor the extinguishing of the flame and, if necessary, immediately interrupt the gas supply in order to avoid an explosion in the worst-case scenario.
Some older combustion furnace controllers without bus functionality have been replaced by PNOZmulti 2, which is another area of application for Bühler, because PNOZmulti 2 is a modular system with a wide range of configuration software that is flexible and adaptable in terms of hardware and software.
Typical wafer forming processes, such as ice cream cones: the dough is poured into a single baking tray that circulates in the oven at a speed of up to 0.5 m/s.
At the end of the process, the wafer is shaped into a pointed cone. Under the control of the small safety controller PNOZmulti 2, the furnace controller monitors the baking process and regulates the gas supply and thus the flame.
Bühler's Wafer Innovation Center, which has developed production lines for a diverse range of wafers (flat and hollow wafers, wafer rolls, ice cream cones, waffles and wafer snacks).
An overview of the benefits of security solutions
1. Connectivity to existing automation environments: Thanks to the openness of PNOZmulti 2, Bühler's automatic wafer ovens can be used worldwide
2. The furnace type is also suitable for retrofits: Thanks to the configuration software, the hardware and software on the old furnace controller without bus functionality are flexible and adaptable
3. Thanks to the TÜV-certified combustion furnace software module, it is suitable for international use

Common faults with Pilz safety relays
The most common ones are the following:
(1) Contact failure
1. The phenomenon that cannot be disconnected due to mechanical occlusion of the contact (the needle-like protrusion formed on the contact and the pit biting each other), fusion welding, or cold welding.
2. Due to the contact resistance becoming larger and unstable, the circuit cannot ...

Peel magnetic relay - relay common faults and solutions
First, the contact is loose and cracks
The contact is the electrical touch part of the relay to complete the switching load, and the contact of some products is riveted and pressed, and its primary disadvantage is that the contact is loose, the contact cracking or the scale azimuth error is too large. This will affect the touch reliability of the relay.

Peel magnetic relays – the difference between solid state relays and mechanical relays
1. The structure/working principle of the two is different
Mechanical relays consist of an iron core, coils, and contacts. When the coil is energized, the current in the coil generates a magnetic field that makes the contacts act, thus completing the working principle of the mechanical relay.
Solid state relays are made up entirely of electronic components. That...
