Compact, lightweight and highly durable servo valves that meet the demanding requirements of aerospace applications

Servo valves are part of Honeywell's Electromechanical Peripheral Equipment (EMID) family of products, including electro-hydraulic servo valves (EHSV), fuel-hydraulic servo valves, torque motors, pneumatic torque motors, and solenoids.

Electromechanical interface devices (EMDs) convert electrical signals into mechanical power by controlling fluid flow. Honeywell EMID can be used to remotely operate complex equipment.

An electro-hydraulic servo-hydraulic valve (EHSV) is a device that uses an input electrical signal to control the flow of a gas or liquid. The flow of the medium is used to drive the opening or closing of the valve, or to drive the actuator to move.

As a result, servohydraulic valves provide an efficient and reliable way to control fluid flow and mechanical movement at various locations on an aircraft or engine.

A typical electrohydraulic servo valve manufactured by Honeywell consists of a two-stage structure. The first stage is a torque motor, which uses an incoming electrical signal to generate an electromagnetic force that drives the armature to move to control the flow of fluids, such as pressurized fuel. The second stage is a hydraulic amplifier, which uses a relatively small flow rate from a torque motor to drive a valve that can provide a very large flow rate.

When the lower flow rate is sufficient for the conditions of use, the torque motor can also be used separately (single-stage electro-hydraulic valve).

Although servohydraulic valves are widely used outside of the aerospace industry, aerospace applications place higher demands on servohydraulic valves in terms of safety, reliability, and harsh environments.
