The principle is: the welding method of generating an electric arc between the coating electrode and the base metal, and using the arc heat to melt the electrode and the base metal. The outer layer of the electrode is covered with flux, which melts when heated, and has the functions of stabilizing the arc, forming slag, deoxidation, and refining.

Compared to pulse-free MAG/MIG welding, the coarser wire can also be used for jet transition, resulting in improved wire feeding performance and reduced wire cost in thin plate welding. In particular, aluminum and alloy welding play an advantage in automation and robotization.
