The inverter changes the output frequency and voltage together, that is, changes the n0 on the motor running curve, so that the motor running curve moves parallel downward. Therefore, the inverter can make the motor with a small starting current, together with the motor starting torque to reach its maximum torque, that is, the inverter can start the heavy load.

The soft engine only changes the output voltage, not the frequency, that is, it does not change the n0 on the motor running curve, but increases the steepness of the curve to make the motor characteristics softer. When n0 is constant, each torque of the motor (rated torque, maximum torque, stalled torque) is proportional to the square of its terminal voltage, so the starting torque of the motor is greatly reduced by soft engine, so the soft engine is not suitable for heavy-duty motor.

The inverter can not be replaced by soft engine in terms of function, and the inverter can complete the constant rotation distance start, that is, it can have the same rotation distance as the high speed at low speed, and the soft start cannot be completed.
