In power transmission and distribution applications, current and voltage transformers are primarily used for protection and metering functions. Weidmüller has developed the new Klippon Connect TTB series of instrument transformer terminal blocks for this application, which enables particularly simple and safe wiring even in messy circuits. Avoiding misuse during operation is a top priority, and such mistakes can have serious consequences for people and equipment. For this purpose, the terminal blocks of the Klippon Connect TTB series of transformers use a common joystick mechanism, known as "close before break" contacts. It increases the availability of the system and extends the entire life cycle of the control cabinet. This quality claim is highlighted by the IEC 60947-7-1 Annex D certification.
New forced short-circuit function
The TTB series transformer terminal blocks are specially developed for use in the secondary circuit of the transformer. In order to achieve safe operation when disconnecting or isolating protection and measuring equipment, the terminal will short-circuit the current transformer and then avoid high voltage in the secondary winding. One of the advantages of the new transformer terminal blocks is the "make-before-break" contacts that can be used for up to four connections. It guarantees that the current transformer inside the terminal will be short-circuited before it is disconnected from the rest of the transformer circuit. This will prevent the voltage on the current transformer from rising and from being damaged or even destroyed. Once the CT side has been shorted and disconnected once together, the meter can be easily and safely replaced or a protective relay test can be performed.
The combination of the operating handle, the short strip and the handle interlocker in a single system, i.e. the forced short-circuit function, ensures particularly simple and safe wiring.
Secure comparative metrology
For example, it is also sketchy to connect a reference metering device to compare the same meter. Thanks to the patent-pending CM (Comparative Measurement) handle interlock, the two terminal blocks can be selectively disconnected for interconnection with the calibrated metrology device. After measuring, the operating handle is reset to the original position, so that the "close before break" contact remains active. A common function of the TTB series is to ensure a high level of safety for people and equipment.
The switching status of the terminal blocks of the TTB series transformers can be easily seen under all lighting conditions. The handle can be operated manually or with a gauge screwdriver, and this planning also helps to complete the multi-pole drive. The other compact design includes a wide range of functions in order to achieve a high degree of safety, ease of operation and convenience for such demanding metrology applications. All functional and safety-related components can be securely connected to the terminal blocks.
The switch lock locks the actuator in the appropriate position and then prevents accidental disconnection and closure of the circuit. The through-connection channels upstream and downstream of the disconnect point guarantee a high degree of sensitivity. This means that even the most cluttered circuit requirements can be accomplished with standardized accessories such as short strips, handle interlocks, and test sockets. As a complement, Weidmüller also offers PE terminals with the same profile, which can be used for quick and easy installation of star contacts. The wide marking area and colourful accessories for coding the terminals provide a clear overview during installation and protection work.
TTB series transformer terminal blocks can also be sensitively adapted to different customer standards. The integrated combination feet allow it to be mounted on the 32 and 35 mounting rails of two universal types. In addition, the terminal blocks are available with Push-in or screw connections. The transparent protective cover system can be used for particularly sensitive applications. The protective cover should only be fixed when all connecting components are in their initial orientation. In this way, components are fully protected against incorrect operation, unauthorized visits, and contamination without compromising visual viewing.
Data-backed selection of products, equipment and accessories
In the planning phase of equipment and systems, the intelligent interaction between digital commodity data and interconnected engineering things is crucial. Weidmüller WMC software provides a complete data set for easy preparation and item selection during the planning phase. Even if the user does not know the product name and product number, its simple auxiliary function ensures that the equipment can be reliably equipped. Another feature of the WMC is the particularly rational product equipment and the brief selection of safety-critical accessories. An extensive database of TTB series transformer terminal blocks has been integrated into the WMC.
