The award is selected by an independent jury and is awarded to Weidmüller's products and solutions that are particularly innovative in the field of control cabinets and panel devices. This year, Weidmüller's award-winning product is its new VPU AC IoT surge protector. The device has the ability to understand the Internet of Things (IoT) and can monitor a variety of important functions such as real-time device conditions, surge voltage, protective ground conditions, and voltage values of each phase without the need for device-rated sensors.
This smart surge protector can be used directly into existing WiFi infrastructure and connected to cloud systems such as Microsoft Azure. This makes it possible to monitor the machine's important process data, including the voltage values of each phase, at any time and from anywhere. In addition to real-time monitoring of the status of all important parameters, a historical record of transient surge voltages is also available. This data can then be evaluated via smart links to initiate relevant switching actions. This allows you to confirm the load on a single sensitive device, such as a router, etc. Evaluation data can help to efficiently plan processes and future conservation approaches. It is also possible to retrofit the equipment into existing use.
Whether the data is used directly on site or transmitted to the cloud, real-time condition monitoring of all important parameters via WiFi ensures a high level of system availability.

The IoT capability is lightning current-tolerant, which means that real-time monitoring data is available again even after a surge voltage.
