Equipment automation has undergone rapid transformation for many years. Weidmüller has been developing intelligent components such as IoT Gateway 30 to respond to and drive the requirements of this change. Multi-utility gateways are a logical complement to the product portfolio. On the one hand, it establishes the necessary connectivity from the sensor to the cloud. On the other hand, by acquiring and pre-processing machine data, it ensures that running costs are kept low, due to the cost of each message sent. If data is aggregated or sent only on an event-driven basis, then the exchange of information can be minimized.
Thanks to mobile connectivity, the gateway can be used anywhere, regardless of the existing underlying architecture. Weidmüller is future-proofing the 4G LTE specification for this purpose.
Data preprocessing is carried out using the open IoT specification Node-RED, which is integrated into IoT Gateway 30 so that users can implement their own programming or use many of the community's pre-defined functions.
Field devices and controls can be accessed through common interfaces and protocols such as Modbus RTU, TCP, OPC UA, MQTT, or RFC1006, simplifying connectivity to existing architectures. In most cases, there is no need to make any changes to the control system for this purpose. For further use, the data is sent to internal IT or cloud stacks such as Azure, AWS or IBM.
The Weidmüller U-Link long-distance visit service has also been integrated to ensure fast and safe visits to machines and plants. In addition, historical process data can be stored in u-link, and individual dashboards and alerts can be generated. The intuitive interface allows users to configure quickly and easily without expert knowledge and can be adapted to the internal process structure. In this way, Weidmüller combines the Internet of Things and long-distance visiting concepts in a single portal.
For easy use outside the cabinet, the Weidmüller IoT Gateway 30 can be easily and safely integrated into a FieldPower enclosure. Although there are many integrated interfaces in the cabinet, the IoT Gateway 30 is impressively small.
With our integrated, advanced and harmonized portfolio of IoT functions, we are successfully on the road to the Data-to-Value IIoT. For the use of green and brownfield areas, Weidmüller offers solutions from data acquisition, data pre-processing, data communication to data profiling. The road to IIoT is not a mess. This is also evidenced by the new IoT Gateway 30, which provides users with customized IoT solutions from sensor to cloud.
