1. Typical planning of torque sensors

Unlike load cells or force transducers, the measuring body of a torque transducer is not subjected to a tension load, but is torsionally affected by lever torque or torque. Therefore, torque sensors require special strain gauges to measure this type of load, i.e. torque. Two typical types of torque transducer planning are shaft and flange.

Shaft Torque Transducer:

Shaft torque sensors consist of a measuring shaft, which may also be hollow. Strain gauges are installed on shafts, sometimes on conical sections in the middle, depending on the type, and the shafts are sealed by housings. The shaft or rotor is capable of moving or rotating, while the housing or stator is fixed. These two parts are connected to each other by low-conflict, zero-clearance bearings. The sensor is usually connected to the test structure or test bench through hub couplings at both ends of the shaft. These couplings come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Torque Flange:

The structure of the measuring flange is basically similar to that of the measuring shaft, but the appearance is completely different. They also consist of a hollow shaft, albeit a very short one. The flange sits at both ends of the shaft. This allows the sensor to be threaded for integration into a structure or test bench. The measuring flange consists of a rotor and a stator. However, unlike the measuring shaft, the rotor is not completely closed in the housing. As a result, there is no need for a bearing assembly.

2. Non-contact measurement data transmission

This is also a significant difference between a rotating torque sensor and other sensors such as a force sensor or load cell, which cannot be supplied with cables for power supply and data transmission due to rotation, as the cables become entangled when the rotor rolls. In order to avoid this, a non-contact connection is required to transmit signals or electrical energy from the stator to the rolling rotor to supply power to the strain measurement circuit of the device.

Electronic devices are installed in the measuring body. The strain bridge signal is amplified, filtered, and digitized before being transmitted wirelessly to the stator. Depending on the application, the data can then be output via a frequency or voltage signal or digitally via a fieldbus.

Photoelectric switch (photoelectric sensor) is the abbreviation of photoelectric proximity switch, which uses the shielding or reflection of the beam by the detected object to connect the circuit by the synchronous loop to detect the presence or absence of the object. When the photoelectric sensor outputs the signal, the signal is occasionally unstable, and many people do not know what to do.
