Emerson's Asset Monitor edge analytics appliance improves visibility into critical assets and adds predictive analytics.

Emerson introduces the AMS Asset Monitor Edge Analytics Appliance to digitally transform data and analytics for critical assets to improve operational performance and decision-making. AMS Asset Monitor can provide actionable insights into critical assets that have rarely been evaluated in the past. The AMS Asset Monitor Edge Analytics appliance connects with Emerson's Plantweb™ Optics management platform to provide detailed asset health information to key operations personnel in real time for operations and maintenance decisions.

Critical assets such as pumps, fans, and heat exchangers are typically monitored every 30 to 60 days. The longer the interval, the less likely it is to detect defects and lead to unexpected failures that can have a significant impact on production, product quality, and plant efficiency. The new AMS Asset Monitor, combined with easy-to-deploy embedded logic analytics and intuitive device health scoring capabilities, makes it easy to monitor and maintain critical assets. For example, the analysis and visualization capabilities of the AMS Asset Monitor can help plant personnel effectively plan maintenance during planned shutdowns and overhauls, reducing or even avoiding unplanned shutdowns.

While typical analytics devices send data to a historian or cloud for processing, AMS Asset Monitors provide analytics at the edge and compute on the device. This equipment-centric analytics reduces the time, complexity, and expense of adding analytics to plant assets. Each device continuously collects data and uses embedded logic to identify and diagnose common reliability issues. Issues such as imbalance, misalignment, bearing failure, lubrication failure, or fouling are added to the asset's overall health score. The AMS Asset Monitor then sends these health scores via a web browser or through real-time alerts from people on mobile devices after integration with the Plantweb™ Optics management platform. The Plantweb™ Optics management platform will also enable enterprise-wide visibility and extend edge analytics and digital intelligence to ensure people have visibility into the health of critical assets.
