1. What is Safe EFI-pro System?
Safe EFI-pro: The new generation of SICK safety communication protocol
Safe EFI-pro is a SICK-based communication protocol based on the typical industrial safety Ethernet protocol EtherNet/IP™ CIP Safety™ developed by SICK, which provides the advantages of forward-looking and stable industrial Ethernet technology. In addition to the fast exchange of safe and non-safe data via all machine communication interfaces, efficient networking between innovative sensor solutions and the Flexi Soft safety controller from SICK is also possible.
The result is newer, more productive safety solutions. The charm of EFI-pro lies in its openness – and is therefore a key module for Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
Key features:
Safe EFI-pro System is a mature, advanced and complete safety system with the following main features:
1. Based on traditional industrial Ethernet, secure network technology, and secure authentication system
2. License-free software from SICK safety designer for hardware and software configuration, commissioning, and diagnostics
3. Up to six SICK EFI-pro type safety laser scanners can be integrated into a Safe EFI-pro system
4. In addition to the EFI-pro safety scanner sensors from SICK, robot safety controllers and sensors are also compatible with the Ethernet/IPTM CIP SafetyTM communication protocol
5. Safe EFI-pro System can be integrated with a SICK motion control module to realize sports safety monitoring
2. Customer benefits
The powerful Safe EFI-pro System offers customers a number of benefits, typically:
Individual solutions for brands: Interconnection of safety sensors, safety controllers and actuators with the help of the unified safety protocol Ethernet/IPTM CIP SafetyTM

Reduced costs: Smart connection technology with standardized plug connectors and the application of Industrial Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) help reduce cabling effort, time- and cost-effective commissioning
Safe and efficient: integrated secure motion monitoring, synchronous protection monitoring and extended network system integration; Up to six safety laser scanners from SICK and six Safe EFI-pro systems can be networked to enable adaptive safety environment detection and dynamic adjustment of the monitoring situation to the respective monitoring area, thus maximizing the productivity of collaborative machines and safety
Optimized processes: Safety Designer offers a wide range of diagnostic options and integration into all common fieldbus/industrial Ethernet systems via other non-safety-related gateways; Transmission of machine data from the field level to the cloud via Ethernet enables centralized process analysis and optimization all the way to Industry 4.0
Safe investment: The Safe EFI-pro System is a future-proof Industrial Ethernet technology that interfaces with Industry 4.0
3. Typical applications
In this issue, we only briefly introduce the typical application of Safe EFI-pro System in AGV, and will share more application scenarios in depth in the future.
As shown in the figure above, the Safe EFI-pro System effectively solves new and complex applications in the field of AGV/AMR.
With the Safe EFI-pro safety protocol, a comprehensive range of safety controllers and safety laser scanner system solutions, together with speed detection and steering angle detection, safety encoders and safety switches, productivity in the logistics sector will be raised to a new level.
With SICK's safeHDDM® scanning technology, safety laser scanners (microScan3, outdoorScan3, and nanoScan3) transmit stable and accurate environmental profile measurement data to the vehicle controller via Ethernet (UDP and TCP/IP) and can easily cope with challenges such as accurate navigation in confined areas or positioning in large warehouse areas without the need for additional sensors.

An introduction to the three common types of photoelectric sensors
1. Photoelectric switch sensor
The occlusion between the transmitter and receiver is used to detect states such as motion, object presence, or object position. When the measured object passes through the occlusion beam, the intensity of the light signal received by the receiving head changes, which in turn triggers the switching signal. Photoelectric switch ...
