1. External equipment failure. Such faults come from external devices such as various sensors, switches, actuators, and loads. The failure of this part of the equipment will directly affect the control function of the system. This type of failure is usually caused by the quality and longevity of the equipment itself.

2. System failure. This is a total failure that affects the operation of the system. System failures can be divided into fixed failures and occasional failures. If a failure occurs, it can be restarted to restore the system to normal, just like our computer system, which can be considered an accidental failure. Conversely, if the reboot cannot be recovered and the hardware or software needs to be replaced before the system can live normally, it can be considered a fixed fault, which is generally caused by the wrong system design or the long operation of the system.

3. Hardware failure. This type of fault mainly refers to the fault caused by the damage of the modules in the system, such as CPU, memory, power supply, I/O module, etc. (especially I/O module). This type of fault is generally more obvious, and the impact is also accompanied, they are mainly caused by improper use or long use, and the aging of components in the module.

4. Software failure. This type of failure is caused by a bug in the software itself. The main thing is that the software design is not well thought out. It will be triggered as soon as the conditions are met. In practical engineering applications, software errors are almost unavoidable due to the complexity and workload of software, which raises the question of software reliability.

5. CPU abnormality: When the CPU is abnormally alarmed, check the device connected to the internal line of the CPU unit. The specific method is to replace the units that may cause failures in turn, find out the faulty units, and deal with them accordingly.

6. Memory abnormality: When the memory is abnormally alarmed, if it is a problem with the program memory, the fault will be reproduced after reprogramming. In this case, it may be that the interference of noise causes a change in the program, otherwise the memory should be replaced.

7. Abnormal input/output unit and abnormal expansion unit: When this kind of alarm occurs, the insertion status and cable connection status of the connector of the input/output unit and the expansion unit should be checked first, and the unit should be replaced after determining the fault.
