As a milestone in this goal, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) applications are emerging, and the various functions that make up ADAS are becoming widespread. Autonomous driving is an extension of ADAS. In other words, in the driving support of existing in-vehicle systems, it is possible to realize autonomous driving in the full sense of the word by gradually reducing the participation of the driver and combining various driver assistance functions into one.

The Japan Electricity Group is working on advanced technology research such as sensing devices and recognition algorithms, which are the core of autonomous driving systems from ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) to those held by each Group Company, by integrating the technological resources held by each group company.

There are several technical hurdles in the realization of autonomous driving. First of all, the driving trajectory must be established by the sensing device and the driving route must be determined. To do this, it is necessary not only to detect the white lines, curbs and free zones of the road, but also to establish routes based on the map data. Since the accuracy of GPS when using map data is not enough, SLAM technology is used to deduce the location and identify the environment based on the surrounding landmarks. After deciding on the driving trajectory, you can start driving, but you must detect obstacles that are obstructing you and make a decision to avoid or stop. In addition, according to the actual situation, it is also necessary to change the vehicle lane, merge and overtake the vehicle, and also need to adjust the speed and steering wheel smoothly in combination with the road conditions such as turning, going up and down, and traffic jams.

The Japan Dec Group is further accelerating its research and development efforts to realize autonomous driving by improving its vehicle control technology, which makes full use of assets such as sensors, motors, and control systems, due to various factors such as hardware, software, and cooperation with transportation facilities.
