Honeywell and Denso have partnered to upgrade the development of urban air mobility

The cooperation will promote the development, testing and flight of electric propulsion systems for urban air mobility, contributing to the sustainable development of both sides

Shanghai, China, June 3, 2021 – Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) has signed a long-term agreement with Denso Group to work together to advance electric propulsion systems to meet the emerging aerospace needs. With their backgrounds in aerospace and passenger car, the two companies will develop and manufacture electric propulsion systems for the aircraft, with an initial focus on urban air mobility (UAM) with a focus on air taxis and cargo drones.

Both sides are conducting in-depth reviews with existing and potential customers, and the electric propulsion system for flight testing is expected to be delivered next year. The focus on electrified powertrains will not only help companies deliver on their commitment to make urban air mobility cleaner, safer, more efficient, quieter and freer within and between cities, but also carbon neutral by 2035.

The partnership was formalized after the two companies reached an agreement to begin in 2019. Denso's ability to produce high-quality components at scale, combined with Honeywell's aerospace expertise, will enable this collaboration to take urban air mobility to new heights. In addition, the joint electric propulsion system will be seamlessly integrated with Honeywell's fly-by-wire flight control system, avionics and actuation system to convert every watt of power into thrust and lift as much as possible.
