1. The necessity of braking resistance

If the regenerative energy that occurs during deceleration and descent in the application is too large, there is a possibility that the voltage of the main circuit inside the inverter will rise, causing damage.

Because the inverter usually has an overvoltage maintenance function, it will stop when the overvoltage (OV) of the main circuit is detected and will not cause damage. However, since the motor stops when an abnormality is detected, it is difficult to operate it smoothly.

It is necessary to apply a brake resistor/brake resistor unit/brake unit to release the regenerative energy to the outside of the inverter.

(1) Regenerative energy

The load attached to the motor has kinetic energy when rotating and potential energy at high azimuth. When the motor slows down, or the load is reduced, this energy is returned to the inverter. This phenomenon is called regeneration, and that energy is called regenerative energy.

(2) Avoidance of braking resistance

There are the following ways to avoid braking resistor connection. Since the avoidance method will inevitably add a deceleration time, please study and admit that there is no problem even if the deceleration time is extended.

· When decelerating, the stall avoidance function is effective (it is set to useful in the setting at the time of shipment) (the deceleration time is automatically added to avoid the occurrence of overvoltage in the main circuit).

· Set the deceleration time longer. (Regeneration energy per unit of tick is reduced).

· Select free rotation abort. (Regenerative energy is not returned to the drive).

2. Brief selection of braking resistor

This is a method that is abbreviated according to the ratio of the moment when the regenerative energy occurs in the normal action mode. Please calculate the utilization rate according to the following operation methods.

(1) The utilization rate is 3% or less

Select a braking resistor. A list of braking resistors corresponding to the capacity of the inverter is listed in the operating manual and product catalog ·. Connect the appropriate braking resistor according to the inverter you are using. (If the capacity of the inverter becomes larger, a brake resistor can be installed on the cooling fan of the inverter).

(2) If the utilization rate is 10% ED or less

Select a braking resistor. A list of braking resistors corresponding to the capacity of the inverter is listed in the operating manual · the product catalog, so please refer to the corresponding braking resistor unit of the inverter used.

3. Easy selection of braking resistor

If the utilization rate exceeds 10% ED, or if the braking torque is required very high, calculate the regenerative energy before selecting the following method.
