Contactless magnetic switches, also known as solid-state electronic magnetic switches, are a form of switches that use semiconductor characteristics and amplification loops, and the magnetic switches of this structure inevitably have problems such as leakage current and internal voltage drop. The structure of the 2-wire and 3-wire magnetic switches is shown in the figure below. For the 2-wire type, the load of the magnetic switch is connected directly to the conductor of the power supply; The power and signal wires of the 3-wire magnetic switch are separated, i.e. in addition to the positive and negative wires of the power supply (i.e., independent power supply), there is also one output wire for connecting the load. It is precisely because of the difference between the above-mentioned 2-wire and 3-wire structures that there are great differences in their leakage current, internal voltage drop and other indicators.

It can be seen that the internal voltage drop and leakage current of the 3-wire magnetic switch are much smaller than the 2-wire type, but the wiring workload is large. When choosing a magnetic switch, the above characteristics must be considered. Specifically, the choice should be based on the size of the load, and in general, for ordinary PLC inputs, the 2-wire type is a good choice, because it can reduce the wiring workload. However, the relatively high leakage current of the 2-wire type will cause some PLCs to fail to detect the OFF state of the switch, and in this case, it is necessary to use the 3-wire magnetic switch.
