Carbon fiber composites are becoming increasingly important, especially in the automotive industry and its Tier 1 suppliers. The use of carbon fiber in industry has doubled in the last five years and is forecast to quadruple by 2030.

A few years ago, products containing only carbon fiber were very niche and expensive. Today, however, many body shells are made of carbon fiber or in part. This information is being used more and more frequently in the roof, hood and accessories. Carbon fiber is also used in vehicle interiors, for example in the interior of the doors, center console and backrest.

In addition to the automotive industry, carbon fiber is also used in the wind power industry to improve the aerodynamic function of the blades, which together guarantee satisfactory rigidity. Another area where carbon fiber is used is in the production of sports equipment such as bicycles or canoes. Depending on the type of sensor or the composite data, most conventional inductive sensors cannot reliably detect carbon fibers. However, Turck's new product range is able to reliably detect such data.

These sensors can be used in the production of parts to detect carbon fibers or pads in molds. Of course, the sensors can also be used in the further processing of carbon fiber parts. The detection of loose carbon fiber pads is particularly useful for suppliers at all levels. In automotive production, the inspection of pressed finished products is very important.
