The solution is based on open standards, which provide greater freedom for machine builders and end users, while reducing energy and resource consumption in the use process.

Automation: Increase openness while reducing energy and resource consumption

Historically, it has been common for automation manufacturers to tie software functionality to control hardware, tying customers to their product portfolios. Bosch Rexroth's Linux-based real-time ctrlX OS operating system, which was also originally only used on the ctrlX CORE control system, is now a stand-alone solution for industrial environments. The ctrlX OS operating system seamlessly connects more automation components to the full ctrlX AUTOMATION portfolio in real-time and hardware-independent, including partner solutions from ctrlX World. This makes it even simpler and more flexible for machine builders and system integrators to develop, install, update, and operate software-based functions on control systems at all levels of the automation topology. WAGO, as the first system and technology partner, has installed the ctrlX OS operating system on its own devices and is working with Bosch Rexroth to develop new industry-specific solutions.

The ctrlX AUTOMATION toolkit is also driving the sustainability of industrial automation. More and more energy-saving functions are being applied, such as the intelligent energy mode in the servo drive, which ensures that energy is stored in the system in an intelligent way and that peak loads are avoided as much as possible. As part of the recycled product program, there is also a trend to carry out projects for the reuse of automated components. For example, obsolete servo motors are restored to like-new condition through professional repair and replacement of worn parts, and warranty is provided. Around 75% of the components can be reused, thus saving resources.

Linear drive technology: Customized solutions for faster access

In the field of linear drive technology, Bosch Rexroth is speeding up the engineering efficiency of individual components and intelligent machine electronics systems with digital tools. The pre-built operating software, with the help of a virtual assistant, saves time in the commissioning of the subsystem. As a plug-and-play solution, Smart Function Kits for stamping and joining, handling and dispensing simplify and accelerate the operational efficiency of the entire process. With pre-built software, subsystem commissioning time can be reduced by up to 80 percent, and even more time can be saved for visual sequence programming using drag-and-drop function blocks. The Smart Flex Effector opens up new freedom in the field of automation. The sensor-based compensation module uses an independent kinematics with six degrees of freedom to give the robot the sensitivity of a human hand. This innovative product has been awarded the 2023 Hermes Prize.

The Hägglunds quantum motor series: a new peak in performance and service life

The new Heglon Quantum Hydraulic Motor series overcomes the physical limitations that existed in the past, offering a unique combination of torque and speed. With a maximum speed of more than 150 rpm and a maximum torque of more than 350 kNm, it rewrites the rules of power density. Thanks to the optimisation of design and materials, the series is more efficient than previous series and has a twofold average service life. Based on the market-proven and electromechanically optimised open hydraulic pump, Bosch Rexroth has launched the new eOC (Electronically Controlled Open Circuit) hydraulic system. With these hydraulic pumps for mobile and industrial applications, eOC technology allows operation with variable pressure, flow and power in stationary and mobile applications, improving the stability of functionality in specific applications. The components are more efficient and the overall system is more efficient. At the same time, the adoption of energy recovery solutions is possible or simplified. The key is to move complex control processes from the hardware controller to the software level, reducing the variety of pump controls and default settings. Each machine only needs to be set up once, which reduces the set-up effort.

eLION platform: Bosch Rexroth continues to push the boundaries of mobile machine electrification

The modular eLION platform has been developed for a wide range of off-highway applications and supports the full electrification of mobile machinery. The electric motors are available in a power rating range of 20 to 200 kW with a peak power of up to 400 kW. Compliance with the ISO 13849 functional safety standard and fully integrated functional safety features help save engineering time. The eLION portfolio includes motors and inverters as well as important system components such as DC/DC, on-board chargers and high-voltage cables.
