In this context, Siemens is launching the web-based SIMATIC PCS neo process control system version 4.0, which includes new software versions and hardware components. With version 4.0, SIMATIC PCS neo can better meet plant capacity requirements and support large projects with up to 64,000 process targets and 56 controllers, which can be used in plants of all sizes.
In version 4.0, SIMATIC PCS neo supports the various parts of the Module Type Package (MTP) standard, which has been jointly defined and published by NAMUR and ZVEI. The plant modules can be more easily integrated into the process control system and can be described, equipped and automated independently of the system manufacturer. In addition, version 4.0 optimizes the work flow and will further reduce the amount of engineering work. According to Hartmut Klocker, "With SIMATIC PCS neo, plant managers can become practitioners of the MTP standard and achieve more efficient control of the process plant. ”
With the introduction of the SIMATIC S7-4100 automation system, Siemens will also launch a new generation of controllers for the process industry, the first of which will be dedicated to SIMATIC PCS neo. Compared to the current model, which will continue to be available for a long time in the future, the new controller is 30 percent smaller and saves space in the control cabinet. In addition, SIMATIC S7-4100 has an extended communication channel with up to six PROFINET or PROFIBUS interfaces. With the latest Siemens chipset, the energy consumption of the controller can be reduced by up to 50%. In addition, the S7-4100 controller is robust and maintenance-free. Operating at ambient temperatures from -25°C to 70°C, no fan or battery is required to buffer system data in the event of a power outage. Hartmut Klocker explains: "The manipulator is the brain of the factory. The SIMATIC S7-4100 controller takes the performance of process industry automation platforms to a whole new level. ”
Siemens will also introduce the fully integrated SIMATIC CN 4100 communication gateway, which enables simple and secure process data exchange with SIMATIC PCS neo at the control and visualization levels. The communication gateway provides convenient data exchange and can be easily imported into the controller and process control system after the data is equipped at the factory. Modbus TCP and OPC UA are supported today, with more to come. This reduces the amount of work required to manipulate processes, simplifies engineering, and improves plant safety through network isolation.
