Siemens Digital Industries recently launched the Symphony™ Pro channel, which builds on the original Symphony mixed-signal verification capabilities and expands the capabilities to support the new Accellera standardized verification methodology with a comprehensive, intuitive visual debug integration environment, enabling up to 10 times more power than traditional solutions.
Next-generation automotive, impression, IoT, 5G, compute, and storage usage are driving the weak demand for imitation and mixed-signal content in SoCs. Mixed-signal circuits are becoming more common, such as the integration of analog signal chains with digital front-ends (DFEs) in 5G massive MIMO radios, digital RF sampling data converters in radar systems, picture sensors that combine analog pixel readout circuitry with digital picture signal processing, advanced mixed-signal circuits that feed more data to data center computing resources to feed PAM4 signals, and more. For these applications, mixed-signal circuitry helps reduce power consumption, area, and cost, all while providing continuously improving performance.
Stephane Vivien, Advanced CAD Manager, Impression Division, STMicroelectronics, said, "Mixed-signal utility verification is becoming increasingly important for our complex planning for the impression and automotive industries. We participated in the early days of the Symphony Pro, where the high-end tuning features and seamless support for the multi-layer sandwich structure helped us significantly increase the power we produce. We wait for Symphony Pro to become the signoff solution for our current and future mixed-signal verification projects. ”
The increasing use of digital control, digital calibration, and digital signal processing skills in modern mixed-signal chip architectures is driving a digital-centric shift in mixed-signal verification methodologies. Siemens' new Symphony Pro channel extends the rapid deployment of industry-standard Universal Verification Methodology (UVM) and Consistent Power Format (UPF)-driven low-power skills to the mixed-signal domain, building on the user-proven Siemens Symphony and Questa™ Visualizer channels, delivering fast simulation capabilities in a consistent environment for superior throughput and capacity.
Modern mixed-signal SoCs integrate analog circuitry with logic gates that operate at extremely high clock speeds. This high-frequency, bidirectional signal flow that sits on the edge of imitation and digital pushes the limits of manual debugging methods, impacting the overall moment of achievement. The Symphony Pro Visualizer MS environment provides a seamless debugging experience across the entire mixed-signal planning hierarchy, with comprehensive analysis, automation, and ease of use to help improve yields.
"The high-functional, energy-efficient chips we are planning for the Internet of Things are essentially imitation-intensive mixed-signal architectures. To ensure high quality, we have expanded our digital verification methodology to support useful regressions for mixed-signal planning," said Jayanth Shreedhara, Senior CAD Manager at Silicon Labs. ”
Ravi Subramanian, Senior Vice President, IC Validation, Digital Industrial Software, Siemens, said, "Our customers are rapidly advancing advanced mixed-signal SoC initiatives across a wide range of uses, and in the process, they're driving innovation in the EDA stuff. The new Symphony Pro combines the proven skills of our AFS, Questa and Visualizer to help customers gain a critical competitive advantage with a consistent mixed-signal verification solution. ”
