Bosch Rexroth will be presenting a solution for remote updates of off-highway equipment at bauma 2022: the new version of BODAS Connect. The solution enables remote security upgrades to controllers for fleets of any size and distribution. Manufacturers can overlay new features and adjust important parameters to achieve full compatibility with new programs. All Rexroth controllers support remote update (OTA) and will also be available for third-party devices used by partners in the future. For this reason, Bosch Rexroth is helping its software-controlled semi-automatic and fully autonomous machine manufacturer partners to reduce time and costs.
Manufacturers looking to introduce innovative features quickly need secure remote services for their E/E vehicle architectures. The new over-the-air (OTA) solution reduces the economic risk for manufacturers, producers and service providers. It ensures that the software is always up to date, avoiding product recalls and on-site repairs, and reducing service costs by shortening service cycles.
The remote update application from Bosch Rexroth has been proven and tested for many years and ensures complete and continuous compatibility with the machinery. The microprocessor-based Rexroth Remote Interconnect Communication Unit (RCU) serves as a secure node for communication between the cloud and the device. The telematics terminal with multiple security protections first guarantees the complete transfer and download of the files, then provides the corresponding authorization, and then updates the device software through the CAN bus line connection established by the telematics terminal (RCU) to the controller, so that the update process is as stable and secure as hardware connections such as laptops and diagnostic tools.
The BODAS Interconnect Modular Telematics system supports both asynchronous and parallel updates, thus meeting the two basic requirements for large-scale remote updates. Update managers and machine operators can perform their own equipment updates separately or at the same time in the same place.
The new solution's integrated version management capabilities allow users to stay informed about the current software status of their fleet equipment. As the fleet grows, the time and cost for users will also be significantly reduced. The benefits of simplification are evident in the different types of equipment. This is because the open, scalable and easy-to-use BODAS interconnection can be used not only to update Rexroth controllers remotely, but also to update third-party controllers in the future.
BODAS Connect provides the technical basis for large-scale remote software refresh of different versions and models of controllers, including third-party controllers. For the latter, Bosch Rexroth acts as an intermediate technology partner, while the relevant partners can add specific refresh programs themselves. We are currently working on pilot projects with international manufacturers.
Bosch Rexroth will also be showcasing two more remote services at bauma 2022: remote diagnostics and remote tuning. By adding remote diagnostics and remote parameter tuning services, the scope of BODAS interconnection functions is further expanded. All remotely updated modules are presented in the cloud management function, which will also save users additional time and costs.
