1. Set to "Surface" to measure the distance from the first surface within the sensor's detection range. This setting is available for all sensor heads.

2. Set to Glass Thickness to measure the distance from the front to the back of a transparent object, such as glass. This means that the distance to the first surface within the sensor's detection range has been measured, and the distance to the second surface within the sensor's detection range has been measured at the same time. The sensor then automatically calculates the spacing and gives a thickness value. Glass Thickness is only available for certain OD Precision sensor head types. When set to "Glass Thickness", it is necessary to set the calibration span to a correction value by means of a precision measurement in order to compensate for the light refractive index of the material being measured.

3. Set to "Glass Gap" to measure the distance between the second and third surfaces, which means that the distance to the second surface within the sensor's detection range has been measured, and the distance to the third surface within the sensor's detection range has been measured at the same time. The sensor then automatically calculates the spacing and gives a gap thickness value. Glass Gap is only available for certain OD Precision sensor tip types.

4. Set to "Back" to measure the distance to the second surface, which means that the distance to the second surface within the sensor's detection range has been measured. "Back" is only available for certain OD Precision sensor head types.
