Honeywell Yu Feng: Intelligent manufacturing is inseparable from scientific and technological innovation

Recently, the Global Future Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Conference was held in Beijing, with the theme of "Technology Empowers the Future, Innovation Leads Development", and Yu Feng, President of Honeywell China, was invited to attend the conference to participate in the discussion and express his views on how to promote countries around the world to strengthen open cooperation in science and technology, and ways and means to solve important global problems through scientific and technological innovation.

Thanks to the moderator for the introduction, the leaders, experts, ambassadors and heads of enterprises who just spoke discussed the role of intelligent manufacturing in the future economic development from academic research, national policies, market applications and other fields, as well as the importance of future scientific and technological innovation to intelligent manufacturing, from which I have benefited a lot.

I would like to share some of my own experiences and understandings of Honeywell, an American company that has been engaged in the research and development of innovative solutions in the fields of industrial Internet and intelligent manufacturing for many years.

1. To practice intelligent manufacturing, enterprises must first lay a good foundation and practice internal and external skills.

The four stages of enterprise digitalization and intelligent manufacturing transformation: lean, automation, interconnection and intelligence, lean is the foundation to achieve all the progress behind, digitalization, automation and other technologies can not replace lean, but can help enterprises continuously improve the level of lean, break through the bottleneck of lean.

We have been innovating technical means, from the DCS in the 70s of the last century, to the later IOT, and the MOM system at the application layer, which is essentially a means and way to support, expand and improve the operation excellence system, the two complement each other and promote each other, multiplying the lean effect, reducing energy consumption, improving productivity, and speeding up the response to market demand.

2Second, practice is the only criterion for testing the effectiveness of intelligent manufacturing solutions.

By practice, I mean measurable outputs, i.e. whether the solution brings tangible benefits to the business and its customers. Enterprises exploring intelligent manufacturing, there is no immutable plan that can be copied, and they must be tailored in combination with their own practice, and constantly adjusted and improved in practice. It can be said that every solution that Honeywell provides to customers has been honed and practiced in its own factory.

Taking Honeywell's world-class certified factory - Suzhou Majie factory as an example, since the establishment of the factory in 2008, there has not been a day when it has not been exploring and improving the lean production process, and the output value has increased by 8 times, the cost has been significantly reduced, and the delivery rate has been greatly improved under the condition that the size of the workforce remains stable. Not only that, the products of the various companies acquired by Honeywell in the world are diverse, the specifications and quality requirements are very different, and the market requirements and characteristics of each other are also different from each other, but they all achieve high efficiency, scale, flexibility and flexible production in the Majie factory, which greatly expands Honeywell's profit margins.

3Third, intelligent manufacturing is not unmanned manufacturing, and the organic combination of man and machine and the realization of the maximum utility of man and machine is the ultimate goal.

Honeywell believes that companies should explore the best combination of humans and machines in a practical way. There is no superiority or inferiority between machines and people, and strengthening collaboration and mutual promotion is the core pursuit of lean production. The development of people and organizations is the strong guarantee of lean production system and information practice, and it is also a key factor in the success of Honeywell's operational excellence system in more than 140 owned factories around the world.

For example, the factory has about 1,000 employees, not like some factories, no one or only a few people, but the output value of the unit is much higher than that of other enterprises. Therefore, when serving customers, Honeywell also tries its best to avoid misunderstandings such as machine theory and manpower uselessness, and instead designs solutions for customers to achieve higher output value with less or even no layoffs.
