Anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) sensor integrated circuits. Detect the speed, direction, and position of a toroidal magnetic encoder target
Honeywell's VM Series anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) integrated circuit (IC) product line features a unique (patent-pending) bridge design and configuration for detecting the velocity and direction of a magnetic ring encoder target. The three products include 2- and 4-pin AMR sensors for gearboxes, engine crankshafts, wheel speed measurement, integrated bearing and seal speed and position sensing, as well as pump, motor and compressor shaft speeds.
These products are designed for flexibility and are suitable for most types of installation configurations.
Honeywell's unique solution uses a saturated AMR bridge to provide a more stable output response in the event of system vibration, sudden air gap changes, or target runout, without the need for complex amplitude compensation algorithms.
AMR signals are more sensitive than Hall-effect sensor ICs and eliminate the need for automatic gain control or chopper stabilization, which avoids increased jitter over the operating range.
