Safety monitoring stops: Cobots that are safely monitored and stopped are suitable for jobs with minimal interaction between humans and machines. Typically, these types of cobots actually utilize industrial robots with a series of sensors that are triggered to stop operation when a human enters the working range.

Speed and separation: These types of robots are similar to safety monitoring stop cobots. The difference is that speed and separation cobots use a more advanced vision system that slows down operations when a human worker approaches and stops operations altogether when a worker gets too close to the robot.

Power and force limitations: These types of cobots are built with a range of intelligent collision sensors that quickly detect contact with a human worker and stop operations. These cobots also have force limits to ensure that any collision is unlikely to result in injury.

Manual guidance: These cobots are equipped with a manual guidance device through which the operator directly controls the robot in automatic mode. In automatic mode, the robot that performs manual collaboration responds only to direct control input from the operator. This means that it allows the robot to automatically support the weight of heavy workpieces as the operator maneuvers them into place, greatly reducing the risk of repetitive stress injuries to the operator.
