Fail-safe systems are now an integral part of machinery and plant automation. With the new complete fail-safe modules, Turck continues to be a promoter of distributed automation concepts in these areas and provides targeted support to customers who plan to modularly plan and implement machine hardware and related software.
Cost-effective
In the area of fail-safe applications, Turck has now introduced the hybrid fail-safe module a few years ago, which is a very efficient solution for integrating the functions of safe I/O and the function of specification I/O in a stand-alone IP67 block I/O. It is also worth mentioning that the two IO-Link master interfaces integrated in these modules provide the necessary flexibility for distributed automation solutions.
However, due to the limitation of the number of safety signal channels in the module, the cost-effective advantages of the hybrid fail-safe module are not obvious. To improve this, we have expanded our product lineup with the integrity fail-safe modules TBPN-L5-4FDI-4FDX and TBIP-Lx-4FDI-4FDX. The 8 I/O interfaces of the newly launched product are all fail-safe signal interfaces, which support Profisafe/PROFINET and CIP Safety/Ethernet/IP, respectively, and have the following characteristics.

During the development process, we worked together to further improve the special details of the safety functions of all fail-safe modules, and to revise and upgrade the software Turck Safety Configurator.

Suppliers of related equipment in the automotive industry, such as the production of car bodies or the use of robots, are the main customer groups for these products. In addition, fail-safe skills have now become a standard requirement throughout the production process. Our fail-safe modules support PROFINET or Ethernet/IP communication networks and are already very successful in the field of plant construction and plant architecture (papermaking machinery, woodworking machinery), transport and storage equipment, and logistics systems.
Thanks to their wide operating temperature range and protection rating of up to IP69K, they are also suitable for use in mobile equipment such as rotary tower cranes or construction machinery. Although CANopen communication is still widely used in this type of device, industrial Ethernet has gradually become the new normal form of use of this type of device thanks to communication deterministic skills.
Key features and customer benefits
The function and form of the newly launched module are the same as those of the original hybrid module. One of the key features of all fail-safe modules is that they are installed directly on the machine to perform fail-safe functions. In addition, with simple safety logic programming, these modules can be used as distributed safety logic controllers. With this function, the customer's automation system no longer requires a dedicated safety controller, but only a standardized PROFINET or Ethernet/IP master controller. This also makes Turck's distributed fail-safe an intelligent and efficient solution.

Another new feature is the addition of support for electronic OSSD devices with normally open/normally closed outputs (complementary switching form).
Higher compatibility
With regard to the C4, C5 and C7 ports of the hybrid fail-safe module, it is possible to adjust or even close the test pulses of the output circuit, and then guarantee a higher compatibility.
Improvements to the function of the stand-alone safety controller
With the help of the Turck Safety Configurator software, fail-safe modules can be used as even more efficient safety controllers.
It can be operated independently or cooperatively
The fail-safe module can perform the function of a safety logic controller that operates independently in a real sense, that is, it can complete fail-safe by itself without connecting to a fail-safe PLC.
Revise GSDML files and introduce SIDI skills
Together, we have enhanced compatibility with IO-Link devices from other manufacturers and ensured that the hybrid fail-safe modules are more flexible for the customer's application.
Internal memory and special functions
