Turck RFID expands the Q300 series with a Linux version

To include a device with a new software channel, Turck is expanding the Q300 series. In addition to the CODESYS-based read/write heads developed for PLC integration, system integrators can now also use Linux-based versions.

                                 Turck RFID expands the Q300 series with a Linux version

System integrators of RFID solutions develop customer-specific software to transfer RFID data from physical measurements to higher-level systems. The use of PLCs via traditional fieldbus protocol connections is not common in this area.

In logistics, integrators need an open channel to develop and operate their respective software solutions. Use cases are important in this area: RFID data must be filtered and then transmitted to an ERP or other system, where it can be used for a variety of missions:

■After delivery, it can be automatically detected and registered into storage

■Items can be detected again after they have been shipped, and it is possible to automatically verify that nothing was lost during the delivery process

As part of the logistics process, these solutions for identifying goods and items typically require the control of multiple antennas at a single read point. One standard application is to inspect goods through the door. These applications allow multiple passive antennas to use only one electronic system (multiplexing) and then enable fast, high-performance and reliable detection of items passing through the reading station. The reading area is extended with multiple antennas, allowing multiple tags to be read from multiple directions.

Key features and benefits

According to Linux, the middleware function can be integrated on TN-UHF-Q300-CHN-LNX. As a result, the Q300 can completely replace the functions of expensive industrial computers in applications, such as data filtering and processing.

The degree of freedom in terms of communication protocols and software programming means that the application can be precisely adapted to the customer's needs and provides the customer with a high degree of flexibility in data processing.

In addition, the data can be transferred to a higher-level MES or ERP system. Our in-house system integrator, Turck Vilant Systems, also runs its own Turck Vilant engine with the Linux version of TN-UHF-Q300. As a result, the Q300 reader can replace the previously used UHF read/write head with integrated Linux channels.
