Currently, the thickness of HDDs used in laptops is 7mm. The thickness of the spindle motor built into the HDD is about 70%-75% of the thickness of the disk, and about 5mm thick. The biggest difficulty in making the motor thinner is the track and the space for the bearings supporting the rotor. If the magnetic circuit is simply reduced, the specified magnetic force cannot be guaranteed, and the length of the bearing is several millimeters, and one or two 2.5-inch disks must be stably rotated at a speed of 5,400 rpm and 7,200 rpm. The key issue is how to maintain or further improve the performance of the hard disk drive spindle motor while ensuring that it is miniaturized.
For example, until the advent of 7 mm HDD motors, 9.5 mm HDD motors, which were the mainstream products, were originally designed with a stop inside the shaft to prevent the shaft from falling off. However, in order to have an advantage over the competition, we chose to fundamentally change the design by designing the stop itself to the outside instead of improving the miniaturization of the internal stopper. It is also one of the R&D strategies in the rapidly developing IT business field to design a basic structure that can be used for several generations of products, sometimes by drastically revising the structure itself.
