Ultrasonic level gauge is a non-contact instrument that uses the principle of echo ranging. The echo ranging principle is also known as the travel time or travel time measurement principle. It emits energy waves through a device that can emit energy waves (generally pulse signals), and the energy waves are reflected when they encounter obstacles, and the reflected signals are received by a receiving device. The change in level is determined based on the time difference in the measurement of the movement of the energy wave. The energy wave signal is processed by an electronic device, and finally converted into an electrical signal related to the level. The advantages of ultrasonic level gauge are very prominent, mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. Simple structure, convenient reading, very easy to install and maintain.
2. Clean and assured, the instrument has a long service life, stable and reliable measurement, and high precision.
3. Non-contact measurement is adopted, which is not easy to be affected by the viscosity and density of liquid.
Of course, the so-called ruler is short and the inch is long. Ultrasonic level gauges also have their own limitations and insurmountable defects, specifically, mainly in the following aspects:
1. There is a blind spot in the measurement of ultrasonic level gauge. Dead zones are areas that cannot be measured by the meter. During ultrasonic pulse transmission, sound waves are usually not received in a small area near the ultrasonic transducer. The blind spot where the sound wave cannot be received, and its size is related to the measurement distance of the ultrasonic wave. Generally speaking, if the measurement distance is small, the blind spot will be small; If the measurement distance is large, the blind spot will be large;
2. The measurement of ultrasonic level gauge is easily affected by temperature. In actual measurements, changes in temperature lead to changes in sound velocity, which in turn leads to measurement errors;
3. There should be no obstacles under the sound wave. Since the ultrasonic level gauge uses the principle of sound wave reflection to achieve liquid level measurement, if there is an obstacle, it will affect the ultrasonic emission, resulting in signal loss and affecting the measurement effect;
4. Ultrasonic level gauge should not be used to measure pressure vessels. Since the pressure mainly affects the probe, and there is a certain relationship between pressure and temperature, the change of pressure will affect the change of temperature, and then affect the change of sound velocity, so that the accuracy of measurement is affected;
5. The ultrasonic level gauge cannot be used in the occasion of water mist, medium that is easy to produce a large amount of foam, and volatile medium. Because this working condition is easy to absorb sound waves or interfere with sound wave transmission, the signal is lost and the accuracy is reduced;
6. The ultrasonic level gauge is greatly affected by dust. This is because although the dust environment has little effect on the speed of sound, it has a very significant effect on the attenuation of sound waves, so it is necessary not to use ultrasonic level gauges in the presence of dust as much as possible.
In addition to the advantages common to most ultrasonic level gauges, ultrasonic level gauges have some features and advantages of their own:
1. Non-contact continuous measurement, with temperature compensation function, can be used in the environment with large temperature difference, high precision and strong adaptability.
2. It has RS-485 communication interface and adopts special echo processing mode to effectively avoid false echoes.
3. There are three ranges of 5 meters, 10 meters and 15 meters to choose from, which can be applied in different industrial environments.
4. High explosion-proof level (ExdIICT6Gb) and protection level (up to IP66/67).
5. The PVDF probe can ensure that the instrument can still measure reliably in corrosive liquids or corrosive environments.
