In recent years, with the increasing complexity and potential risks of electrical, electronic and programmable electronic systems, more and more industrial accidents are caused by faults in the control equipment itself, and unexpectedly serious hazards have occurred. However, domestic and foreign industries are adopting automation equipment on a large scale and intelligent robots to compensate for the shortage of personnel and the decline in production capacity caused by the lack of labor. The situation in all aspects has promoted the rapid development of the robot industry. Therefore, the safety certification of robots is an important guarantee to ensure the process of industrial automation, and its meaning is seriously unclear.

Why do we need functional safety?

Functional Anman is the fundamental access card for international and domestic robot shopping malls.

In recent years, with the continued popularity of the national robot shopping mall, the country began to standardize and promote the safety certification (CR certification) of robots in China. Based on ISO 13849-1 performance level (PL), the safety control system is divided into 5 categories of B, 1, 2, 3, 4, supplemented by appropriate MTTF values and DC values to achieve the expected PL (performance level) levels a, b, c, d, e, PL greater than or equal to d is the lowest requirement for robots.

The international robot standard specification requires that the Performance Level (PL) of the robot safety control system must be greater than or equal to d; ISO 13849 is a certification for safe robotic control systems. If you want to meet the robot standards such as ISO/TS 15066 and ISO 10218, as well as CE certification and North American certification, it is necessary to obtain ISO 13849 PL=d certification.

Functional safety of cobots

The traditional industrial robots on the market often use the method of purchasing safety modules, which can complete the functional safety of 1-2 kinds of robots, such as emergency stop circuits. The collaborative robot breaks through the constraints of traditional industrial robots, and the robot and the person work together in the collaboration area, which requires all the safety functions to meet the requirements of PLd=. Imagine when the operator enters the fence to debug the traditional industrial robot, the phenomenon of the program running away, the consequences will be unimaginable, and the robot has hurt people in recent years. The collaborative robot that has passed the PL=d certification requirements has reached the requirements of Cat3, dual-channel redundant planning and mutual monitoring of the safety control system in the safety control system, even if a single system fails, the fault can be detected through the redundant system and ensure that the robot enters the safety state.

In order for collaborative robots to be functionally safe, the method of purchasing safety modules is not economical, and the technical feasibility is very low. Only when the product development team has core skills and independent intellectual property rights, it is possible to develop independently from the bottom to the top, and introduce the concept of functional safety in the development product planning stage, so as to truly achieve the developed safety control system that meets the functional safety requirements and meets the requirements of the substantive safety of collaborative robots.
