Why can't ordinary relays be used in safety-related applications?
Ordinary relays use the mechanical action of coils and metal contacts to switch loads. Metal contacts may be fusion welded due to repeated operations. If this happens, the machine will continue to run after the operator presses the E-STOP button. This puts the user in a dangerous environment. Many European safety standards, United States, national and international standards prohibit the use of simple relays and contactors on machines with hazards. In 1987, Pilz invented the first compact safety relay PNOZ. Derivatives for emergency stops, safety gates, two-hand controls, light grids, etc., were invented and expanded. Today, the PNOZ series from Pilz is synonymous with safety relays, offering a wide range of high-quality safety relays for different applications, such as PNOZ sigma, PNOZ X, PNOZmulti and more.
Configurable safety relays (configurable safety controller, programmable safety relays)
When there are more than 3 or 4 safety functions, the solution of using multiple safety relays has a high cost and cumbersome wiring. For the application of such multiple safety functions, Pilz has developed the configurable safety relay PNOZmulti.
PNOZmulti is a versatile, freely configurable, modular safety system. Unlike other PNOZ safety relays, the safety circuits of PNOZmulti can be easily generated on a PC using a graphical configuration tool. PNOZmulti is equivalent to a small safety PLC in accordance with the highest safety level of PL e in accordance with EN 13849-1. Up to 14 different safety functions are available within the base unit. Expandable I/O modules and communication modules.

Peel magnetic relays – the characteristics and working principle of relays
When the input quantity (such as voltage, current, temperature, etc.) reaches the specified value, the electrical appliances that make the output circuit to be controlled on or off can be divided into two categories: electrical quantity (such as current, voltage, frequency, power, etc.) relays and non-electric (such as temperature, pressure, speed, etc.) relays.

Pilz: Guard locking and safety interlocks in functional safety
In machinery safety, if it is an access door that prevents entry into the hazardous movement area, it is usually necessary to use a safety interlock switch to realize the "linkage" between the access door and the movement of the hazardous equipment, and when the access door is opened, the dangerous movement stops. In some cases, it is also necessary to prevent the access door from being hit.

How do I remove the Pilz safety relay on the circuit board?
1. The mount can be quickly replaced.
2. For low-value and easy-to-purchase multi-leg assemblies, destructive removal methods can be employed to prevent board stepping on. For this type of relay, use pliers to break it off and then use a set with a semicircular or triangular file.
