SHANGHAI, China – Eaton (NYSE: ETN), the global power management company, today announced that it will join the global energy conservation movement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Eaton's comprehensive plan for the future includes reducing carbon emissions from its operations by more than 50% by 2030 to ensure carbon neutrality. Eaton will also work with its customers and suppliers to reduce indirect emissions by 15%.

Craig Arnold, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Eaton, said: "The climate crisis we face today is no longer just an abstract problem for scientists to solve, nor for future generations, but a crisis that is happening on every continent, in every country and region, and it is profoundly affecting each and every one of us. If we act now, we may still have time to minimize the effects of climate change, to a degree to limit the intensity and frequency of devastating natural disasters, and ultimately to save lives and the planet. ”

Eaton's proposed 2030 greenhouse gas reduction target has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and aligns with the challenges presented to businesses by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The IPCC, the United Nations body that assesses the science of climate change, recently declared a climate emergency and sent an urgent plea to companies around the world to contribute to global action to address the threat of climate change.

To ensure proper accountability and functional alignment, Eaton will establish a Sustainability Executive Committee, chaired by the Company's Chief Executive Officer, to oversee the Company's Sustainability Strategy. The company also plans to invest more than $3 billion in research and development over the next 10 years to provide customers with more energy-efficient power solutions.
