At the 2013 International Robot Show in November, Epson described a roadmap for how robots can automate production in three to five years. Among all the exhibits, the most striking is the autonomous two-arm robot, which Epson plans to start commercial production at the end of March 2016.
The most prominent feature of Epson's autonomous dual-arm robot is that it has anthropomorphic functions such as vision, sensing, decision-making, and task execution. They can identify objects, adjust their grip strength according to the degree of force on the object, avoid damage to the object, and make autonomous decisions when performing tasks. Such robots are expected to automate work that cannot be separated from manual operation due to operational difficulties or cost constraints.
Epson has developed some advanced technologies while developing autonomous two-arm robots. In the coming years, Epson plans to apply these technologies to existing SCARA robots and six-axis robots, making them more advanced and capable of tasks with a higher degree of autonomous control. This will allow manufacturers to get rid of the expensive peripherals and the complex processes required for automated operation in the past. They can also easily adapt the robot to the different needs of the production process and the object. At the International Robotics Show, Epson focused on the unique features of the new robot (see below) to enhance automation.
Equipped with an optional robot camera and Epson projector, the robot can recognize 3D objects at a lower price than before. The photo on the left shows the robot accurately detecting and picking screws of a specific length from a tray where screws of different lengths are randomly placed. With 3D object recognition, parts don't need to be arranged in order, which can increase productivity and reduce costs.
Epson has a complete line of industry-leading SCARA robots and high-performance six-axis robots. From the pharmaceutical and food industries to electronics and automobiles, Epson's high-speed, accurate, compact and lightweight robots are helping manufacturers improve production efficiency and product quality consistency. Epson is committed to providing customers with advanced robotics solutions to meet their growing automation needs. In the next three years, Epson will use the original technology to further improve the autonomous performance of existing robots, and in the long run, realize the commercialization of autonomous dual-arm robots.

Is it better to have more axes in a robot? - Epson
First of all, we need to correct this point of view, the more axes the robot has, the more sensitive it can reach the spatial position, but it certainly cannot be said that the more axes of the robot, the better.
The axis of the robot is commonly known as the joint, like the arm of a person, of course, the more joints the more sensitive, the more able to rotate and reach the position more ...
