According to foreign media reports, Panasonic of Japan has already begun to detect intelligent robots moving traffic and travel equipment at the Takanawa Gateway station under construction in Tokyo, Japan. The test is part of a series of automation technology services for the airport and nearby facilities, as well as a new project for the large-scale redevelopment of the Shinagawa business district.
This kind of mobile transportation machine and equipment is essentially an intelligent electric wheelchair, and in the experiment, three are a group. The experiment will focus on ensuring the safety of consumers with transportation challenges in medium and large traffic safety facilities.
The wheelchair with a disability in the lead will be operated by one subway station worker, and the other two will follow fully automatically. These vehicles are able to perceive obstacles around them, whether they are alive or not. And they are all equipped with fully automatic braking systems, and when some people pass in front of the lead car, all three cars slow down or stop. These vehicles will continue to monitor their speed and are equipped with sensors to detect common faults in all parts of the vehicle.
Panasonic has planned the road transport project as a whole, which includes transportation services for large and medium-sized tour groups such as families and tourists.
In addition, Panasonic is also carrying out Internet research on luxury cars. The company's new CIRRUS project will use cloud-based analytics data to instantly dissect and transmit information such as vehicle-themed activities and road conditions. This data can be shared by vehicles, infrastructure, pavement, and operators. The purpose of this project is to improve the safety factor, control air pollution, and maximize the efficiency of tourism.
Panasonic is expected to continue to carry out such traffic tests in United States Utah, New Hampshire, and Colorado by late 2020.
The Takanawa Gateway Station electric wheelchair experiment is one of the most idealized experiments in Shinagawa's new redevelopment design project, which will continue for many years with the goal of establishing a national hub station in the Tokyo region of Japan. Several railway lines, such as the Yamanote Line, Keihin-Tohoku Line, and Tokaido Line, converge in the area. The world's oldest high-speed rail line, the Tokaido Japan Shinkansen, also crosses the region. Haneda Airport, the headquarters of Japan's two major international airlines, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways, is also nearby.
The new project for the redevelopment of the Shinagawa business district also includes the construction of office buildings and high-rise buildings, which are expected to take place by 2024.
