1. Cybersecurity
In advanced industrial applications, cybersecurity has become an issue to be solved. Many domestic manufacturers (such as Dongtu, Mosa, Mabwell, etc.) have produced a series of Web managed industrial switches that provide a variety of functions for network security problems in LAN.
1. Password—Have multiple levels of user passwords to avoid unauthorized access and settings.
2. Enable/Disable Ports Open and Close Ports — Closes unused ports.
3. 802.1q VLAN: A predefined WLAN on an industrial switch implements logical isolation between physical ports.
4.802.1x Port-Based Network Access Control—Locks down the ports of industrial switches so that they can only allow legitimate users to communicate.
5. MAC Based Port Security – Protects the ports of industrial switches so that they can only communicate with specific devices or MAC addresses.
2. Port device status
Set the rate, duplex, auto-negotiation, flow control, and more for each port to establish the correct connection with devices that are non-negotiable or have specific settings.
3. Port Rate Limit
Configure rate limits for ports, including ingress and egress speed limits. The types of port throttling include all unicast packets, multicast packets, and broadcast packets. where ingress speed refers to the actual speed at which the flow from other devices such as PCs to the ports of industrial switches. Egress velocity refers to the actual speed at which an industrial switch port flows between devices that use it. If both the ingress and egress speeds between the two device connection ports are limited, the actual speed is the lesser of the two.
4. Storm suppression storm
Wreak havoc on the network and cause failure of network-connected devices. In business-critical applications, it can be catastrophic. Filter broadcast packets based on user-defined limits to suppress the occurrence of storms.
5. Quality ofService (IEEE802.1p)
Industrial switches are based on frame buffer queues and first-come, first-served processing mechanisms, which will cause delays when the network load is large. IEEE802.1p allows packets in the high priority queue to stay in the industrial switch for a shorter period of time, and the opposite is true for packets in the low priority queue.
6. Virtual LAN VLAN (IEEE802.1q)
A virtual local area network (VLAN) is a method of creating an independent and separate logical network from a physical network, which enables several virtual LANs to exist in a physical network at the same time. VLANs can effectively reduce the broadcast range and facilitate network management. In fact, if you add a router between these different virtual network segments, they can still exchange data through the router. VLANs can effectively suppress the occurrence of broadcast storms.
7. Multicast Snooping for IGMP
A Layer 2 device running IGMP Snooping analyzes the received IGMP packets, establishes a mapping relationship between the port and the MAC address multicast address, and forwards multicast data based on the mapping. When the Layer 2 device does not perform IGMP snooping, multicast data is broadcast at Layer 2. When IGMP Snooping is run on a Layer 2 device, the multicast data of the known multicast group is not broadcast at Layer 2, but is multicast to the specified recipient at Layer 2.
8. MW-Ring
MW-Ring allows industrial switches to be connected as redundant links, and when one of them is disconnected, the other link can be quickly and automatically restored. In the event of a network outage or network failure, it has link redundancy and fast self-recovery capabilities. MW-Ring technology is developed and designed by Wuhan Mabwell Communication Co., Ltd. for high-reliability industrial control network applications.
9. Link aggregation (802.3ad)
THE MAIN FUNCTION OF PORT AGGREGATION (TRUNK) IS TO BIND MULTIPLE PHYSICAL PORTS (USUALLY 2-4) INTO A LOGICAL CHANNEL, SO THAT IT WORKS LIKE A CHANNEL. After bundling multiple physical links together, not only improves the bandwidth of the entire network, but also allows data to be transmitted through multiple physical links that are bound at the same time, which has the effect of link redundancy, and when one or more of the links are disconnected due to network failure or other reasons, the remaining links can still work.
10. Rapid spanning tree RSTP
Spanning Tree Protocol (PAP) is a Layer 2 management protocol that selectively blocks redundant network links to eliminate network Layer 2 loops and provides link backup functions.
11. Port-based network access control (802.1x)
A port-based network access control mechanism is defined to provide a method for authenticating and authorizing devices connected to LAN ports.
12. HTML Web Browser
A simple, intuitive user interface for setup and monitoring is provided via a standard graphical web browser. All system parameters, including detailed online help, are a breeze with system settings.
13. SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol)
The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force and is part of the Internet Protocol that makes up the Internet Protocol. When a network device is concerned, SNMP is used to monitor network devices through the network management system. The SNMP protocol consists of a series of standard network management, application layer protocols, databases, and data objects.
14. Port mirroring
Port mirroring is to copy all the data sent and received from one or more ports to another specified port. By specifying a port as a mirror port for other ports, you can observe all the data sent and received on other ports through that port. The port mirroring function is used to diagnose, debug, and analyze network faults.
15. Port Statistics and Remote Monitoring (RMON)
Each port provides continuously updated statistics, including all incoming and outgoing packet counts and byte counts, as well as detailed error statistics. It also provides all support for RMON statistics, history, alarms, and event groups. RMON can complete accurate data collection, analysis, and data flow model detection.
16. NTP (Simple Network Time Protocol)
The internal clock of the system is automatically synchronized with the NTP server in the network, thus providing the time correlation of events for failure analysis.
XVII. Event recording and alarm
All major events are logged into a nonvolatile system log for future failure analysis. Events include link failure and recovery, unauthorized access, broadcast storm detection, and self-test diagnosis. Alarms provide a snapshot of the most recent events that have occurred and the network administrator has not yet responded. An external hardware relay releases the contacts during a major event, allowing the external controller to operate if necessary.
