From November 2, the "Data Center Energy Efficiency Limits and Energy Efficiency Grades" will be implemented nationwide, and through the energy consumption measurement, energy efficiency calculation and assessment of individual data center buildings or modular units with independent power distribution, air cooling, and electric air conditioning, a mandatory energy efficiency access requirement of PUE ≤ 1.5 is proposed for new and renovated and expanded data centers, and a strict rating index of 1.2 for energy efficiency of Level 1 and 1.3 for Level 2 energy efficiency [1].

Reducing PUE has always been a green development map for data centers, but in practice, it has found that there are many problems:

Technology is added to the efficient power supply to reduce power loss

In a typical data center architecture, the power supply and distribution system accounts for about 10% of the energy consumption, and its energy saving level affects the PUE performance to a certain extent. Through technologies such as AC direct power supply system reform and power modules, Eaton iteratively upgrades the power supply and distribution system of data centers, so that energy losses can be reduced in the process of energy conversion, and high computing power can be served with high energy efficiency.

AC direct supply loss less than 1%

The energy saving of the data center power supply system focuses on reducing the loss in the power transmission process, and the main method is to reduce the conversion link. Based on the "zero-order conversion" theory, Eaton proposes an AC direct power supply architecture, under the premise of stable external power grid, UPS can directly provide AC mains power to the IT load through static bypass, with an efficiency of up to 99.3% and a heat loss of less than 1%.

An IDC center in Beijing has 267 Eaton 400kVA devices, and when the load rate of a single product is 25% on average, each device can save 162,572kWH per year. Based on the calculation of using coal power, it can reduce carbon emissions by about 16.21 tons, which is really reducing carbon emissions for data centers

Power module optimizes the link
