Siemens recently announced a partnership with Nissan to build a digital production line for its new all-electric crossover SUV Ariya at Nissan's plant in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. The partnership has been a long history, and Nissan has been using the Siemens Digital Industries software portfolio for its own planning and production optimization. Thanks to the end-to-end digital thread, Nissan is able to complete the product lifecycle management (PLM) channel, allowing information to flow freely across channels.
Nissan's newly developed electric powertrain is designed to standardize powertrain processing and installation through the architecture. It covers Siemens' safety PLC Simatic S7-1500, ET200SP distributed I/O modules and Siemens One Single Solution (OSS). Profinet enables end-to-end communication from the field to the administrative level, while the engineering structure TIA Portal fully integrates all automation equipment. This provides a comprehensive overview of the entire digital automation process, from digital planning to integrated engineering and transparent operation, on a daily basis. Smart cars need to be equipped with more high-performance electronic control units (ECUs) in their vehicles, and the all-new Nissan Ariya is just that. Siemens' Sidis Pro system, which has been deployed in several car companies around the world, is also deployed on Nissan's heavy production line to write data to the ECU and verify the car's electronic components. Sidis Pro is a state-of-the-art vehicle diagnosis and testing data management system that provides optimal support for the inspection process and then improves the quality of car production. Sidis Pro enables the digitalization of production lines by processing a wide range of data through server functions. The system maximizes flexibility in the production of passenger cars, as it can be easily adjusted to the production schedule and can quickly adapt to changes. The same software can be used for different purposes, and then the system is standardized and ensures that more tasks can be done with fewer resources, even at other production sites.
Siemens will continue to support Nissan in the digitalization and electrification of its production facilities and contribute to the development of its smart factory.
