Advantech has launched the AIW-355, a new product in the AIW-300 wireless module series, which uses innovative 5G module technology, marking a new milestone in Advantech's industrial wireless (AIW) technology. Designed for AIoT solutions that require ubiquitous connectivity, dynamic mobility, and superior security, it is ideal for edge computing devices, mobile gateways, and a wide range of mobile devices deployed globally. The AIW-355 adopts 5G technology, which has functions and power that cannot be matched by 4G technology. 5G is 20 times faster than 4G (1 Gbps for 4G, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) expects 5G networks to be at least 20 Gbps in the future) and supports the connection of up to 1 million devices per square kilometer. In addition, 5G increases its capacity by a factor of 100, reduces latency by a factor of 10, and reduces latency to just 1 millisecond (10-20 milliseconds for 4G).
Advantech's AIW-355 is powered by the Snapdragon X55 5G modem and supports 5G NR SUB6 frequencies in 5G standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) operation. In addition, it is compatible with LTE and WCDMA standards, and backwards compatible with LTE-A and 3G networks. The AIW-355 helps optimize initial customer investment in 5G construction to meet emerging market needs. Advantech's AIW-355 5G wireless module has an M.2 3052 form factor with an M.2 Key B USB interface that accommodates most major carriers and simplifies 5G integration, as well as GNSS receivers and USB 3.1 high-speed interfaces.
