Eaton Group's Golf Pride Taiwan plant was recognized for its zero-landfill waste reduction program

As part of its waste management program, Eaton is encouraging its manufacturing facilities to achieve zero landfill waste certification while reducing landfill-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In 2018, Eaton's landfill waste was reduced by nearly nine percent compared to the previous year. To date, more than 150 Eaton facilities around the world have met their goal of delivering zero waste to landfill, including nearly 50% of our manufacturing facilities. Eaton is committed to reaching 100% by 2030.

Golf Pride's Taiwan facility, the world's largest golf grip manufacturing facility, is one of Golf Pride's two manufacturing locations and the other is a sister factory in Thailand. The facility produces the most technologically advanced models of Golf Pride, including the MCC, Plus4, Align and CP2 product lines. Golf Pride Taiwan employs approximately 400 people and serves the global OEM and retail channels.

According to UL, a global independent safety science company, Eaton defines "zero waste to landfill" as achieving a landfill diversion rate of more than 98% that can be reused, composted, recycled or incinerated by collecting and using the heat generated by incineration to produce more energy than is required for the incineration process. Each of Eaton's zero-waste facilities undergoes an audit process that includes confirmation of compliance with the definition of zero landfill and ensures proper tracking and monitoring practices are maintained.

Golf Pride Taiwan began a waste reduction program in 2017. The plant has been working hard to identify opportunities to reduce the amount of waste from rubber coatings landfilled, which accounts for about 70% of the plant's total waste landfill. We set standards, train our staff and perform regular process checks to ensure our plans are on track. We now reduce paint waste by 34%. One of the main contributors, Mr. Huang, the director of the manufacturing department of the factory, said, "We only have one earth, and our employees are my family. It is my responsibility to create a green environment for my family. Therefore, the optimization of waste paint supports the reduction of waste paint while achieving better conditions. I am glad and honored that all my family members have a better working environment."

Xu Qingfen, Manager of the Plant Safety and Health Department, said, "With the support of our colleagues in the Safety and Health Department, this is a perfect team effort. Thanks to our senior leadership, we are able to organize many environmental campaigns and involve our employees in the current business processes by emphasizing environmental CSR and awareness training in our current business processes. For example, in 2019, we identified 438 Environmental Improvement Opportunities (EIOs) to align closely with our environment." Speaking about the way of working, the manager emphasized, "And because of Eaton's focus on doing business right, it quickly developed a sustainable culture that was recognized by our employees and made them proud to be employees of Golf Pride's Taiwan plant."
