Shanghai, China, July 13, 2021 – Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) today announced the launch of its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) platform. The platform integrates Honeywell's asset monitoring, distributed energy resource management, monitoring, control and analytics technologies to help companies accurately predict and optimize integrated energy utilization.
Honeywell's battery energy storage platform leverages best practices in energy management, such as energy arbitrage and demand management, to provide flexible control over energy procurement and utilization timing, making it ideal for a wide range of C&I, independent power producers and utilities. In addition, the platform is backed by Honeywell's performance guarantees, including stable and predictable costs, as well as improved uptime.
"Battery energy storage technology is critical to meeting decarbonization goals. Our integrated energy storage solutions, combined with remote operations platforms, can better predict and manage power, generation, and electricity market needs in today's increasingly complex distributed energy ecosystem," said Yan Chen, vice president and general manager, Honeywell Process Control China.
Honeywell's battery energy storage system platform not only improves grid stability and sustainability, but also reduces supply costs. For example, in the event of a failure or shutdown of a power generation facility, the platform reduces the need for additional non-renewable energy generation equipment to come online. In this case, the remote facility can maintain operations by running the platform in parallel with the traditional generator set. The system can then restart the shutdown or start the standby generator set and then resume standby mode.
Honeywell offers a wide range of solutions based on customer needs, from small pilot projects to large-scale projects spanning multiple facilities. In addition, the battery energy storage system platform can also reduce the need for non-renewable energy sources such as gas and diesel, thereby reducing the carbon footprint.
In order to achieve decarbonization and renewable energy utilization goals, the demand for battery energy storage systems is exploding worldwide. Honeywell and its partners have begun to promote battery energy storage systems to customers in the global industrial and commercial sectors as an energy storage service model, creating favorable conditions for promoting energy conservation, emission reduction and operational efficiency. For example, Honeywell has partnered with DTEK, one of Ukraine's largest private energy companies, to provide the first grid-scale battery energy storage system to the region.
