The Digital Data Link (DDC) enables data from each device in the factory to be visited at any time. As a pioneer in the creation of digital data links, Siemens supplied several SITRANS P320 pressure transmitters to Bayer CropScience. These products are equipped with standardized ID links for object-only identification and direct transfer of instance digital files to Bayer's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system in accordance with VDI 2770.
Process plants are involved in the use of a wide range of technical products and plant equipment, and in order to accurately plan, install, commission, operate, clean, maintain and maintain the relevant equipment throughout its life cycle, the plant needs to obtain information about the products supplied by the manufacturer. This information, which was previously in the product specification, can now be read in the cloud in a standardized way through a digital data chain, allowing users to access it anytime, anywhere. The digital data link is supported by the Digital Data Link Consortium (DDCC). In order to ensure data consistency, the digital data link uses a three-fold technical guarantee: automatic identification of plant equipment (according to IEC 61406-1), digital manufacturer information (according to VDI 2770 guidelines) for the provision of normalized data, and information channels based on the cloud (IEP – Information Exchange Channel). The international standard IEC 61406-1 specifies an entry specification for identification-only identifiers. In accordance with this specification, Siemens is continuously supplying devices with ID links, so that users can visit the backend according to the cloud and then obtain product information. "With the help of a digital data link, product descriptions from the plant's equipment manufacturers can be transferred directly to the consignee's ERP system at the time of receipt," says Lorenz. ”
In addition to the SITRANS P320 pressure transmitter, several products, such as the DQ 16 digital output module of the SIMATIC S7-1500 controller from Siemens, also meet the DDC specification.
