An overview of the 5 main components of Universal Robots

1. Control system

The calculations, generally referred to as the control system, contain all the components that make up the central processing unit of the UR robot. The control system is programmed to tell the robot how to use specific parts, similar to a human brain sending signals throughout the body to achieve a specific task. This robotic task is capable of including anything from minimally invasive surgery to assembly line packaging.

2. Sensors

The sensor provides stimulation to the UR robot through electrical signals, which are processed by the controller and allow the UR robot to interact with the outside world. The more common sensors for robots include eye cameras, photoresistors, and ear microphones. This sensor allows the robot to capture its surroundings and allows the controller to process the most logical point of view to communicate instructions to other components based on the current time.

3. an actuator

Only movable frames can be called robots, and actuators are the main components responsible for this movement. The actuator consists of a motor that receives signals from the control system and moves in series to achieve the movement required for the specified task. Actuators can be made of a variety of materials, such as metal or elastomeric, and generally operate according to compressed gas (pneumatic actuators) or oil (hydraulic actuators).

4. Power supply

UR robots need power just as much as their bodies need food to function. For example, the UR robot in the factory can be operated directly through the wall socket through the alternating current. Other robots, more commonly, run on an internal battery. Most robots use lead-acid batteries due to their safety quality and relatively long shelf life, but other robots are likely to use the more compact but most expensive silver-cadmium batteries. Robot power supplies should be designed with safety, weight, replaceability, and life cycle in mind.

5. an end effector

The end effector is the physical part of the UR robot to reach the target, which is usually an external part. UR robots in factories generally have interchangeable tools such as paint sprayers and drills, surgical robots can be equipped with scalpels, and other types of robots can build robots with mechanical grippers to perform tasks such as distribution, packaging, and sorting.
