The inlet pressure sensor is abbreviated as MAP. It connects the intake manifold with a vacuum tube, and induces the vacuum change in the intake manifold with the different speed loads of the engine, and then converts the change of internal resistance from the sensor into a voltage signal, which is used by the ECU computer to correct the fuel injection amount and ignition timing angle. In other words, the ECU computer outputs 5V voltage to the intake pressure sensor, and then the voltage value is detected by the signal side, and the computer, when the engine is idling, its voltage signal is about 1-1.5V, and when the throttle is fully open, it has a voltage signal of about 4.5V.

The intake pressure sensor detects the absolute pressure of the intake manifold behind the throttle, detects the change of absolute pressure in the manifold according to the engine speed and load, and then converts it into a signal voltage and sends it to the engine control unit (ECU), which controls the basic fuel injection volume according to the size of the signal voltage.

What are the repercussions of a broken intake pressure sensor

1. The internal circuit of the sensor is open or short-circuited;

2. The output signal of the sensor cannot be changed with the change of the vacuum degree of the inlet pipe;

3. The voltage of the output signal of the sensor is too large or too small, and its value violates the normal scale.

In addition, the output signal of the sensor is abnormal due to the open or short circuit of the connection between the pressure sensor of the inlet pipe and the computer, the blockage or leakage of the vacuum hose between the sensor and the inlet pipe, and the blockage of the vacuum hole of the inlet pipe.

After the above-mentioned faults of the intake pipe pressure sensor, the fuel injection function of the engine computer will be abnormal, and the mixture will be too thick or too thin, the engine idle will not work properly or the acceleration will be poor, the intake pipe will be tempered during engine work, or the exhaust pipe will emit black smoke. When the intake manifold pressure sensor itself or the wiring is defective, the main failures that will occur are: the engine cannot be started, the engine acceleration is not smooth, the engine idle is unstable, and the engine stalls intermittently.
