How to determine and choose the inverter?

1. The motor and the inverter itself that need to be controlled

The number of poles of the motor. Generally, the number of poles of the motor should not be more than 4, otherwise the capacity of the inverter should be appropriately increased. Torque characteristics, critical torque, acceleration torque. In the case of the same motor power, compared with the high overload torque form, the inverter specification can be derated and selected. Electromagnetic compatibility. In order to reduce the interference of the main power supply, a reactor can be added to the intermediate circuit or the input circuit of the inverter, or a pre-isolation transformer can be installed. Generally, when the distance between the motor and the inverter exceeds 50m, a reactor or filter should be inserted in the middle of them or a shielded protective cable should be selected.

2. The selection of inverter power

The system power is equal to the product of the inverter power and the motor power, as long as both are operating at a higher power, the system power is higher. From the perspective of power, the following points should be paid attention to when selecting the power of the inverter:

The power value of the inverter is the most suitable for the power value of the motor, so that the inverter can operate at a high power value.

When the power classification of the inverter and the power classification of the motor are not compatible, the power of the inverter should be as close to the power of the motor as possible, but it should be slightly greater than the power of the motor.

When the motor is frequently started and braked or is in heavy load starting and frequent operation, a larger inverter can be selected to use the inverter for long-term and safe operation.

After testing, the actual power of the motor does have a surplus, and the inverter with a power less than the motor power can be considered, but it is necessary to pay attention to whether the instantaneous peak current will form an overcurrent maintenance action.

When the power of the inverter and the motor are not in phase, it is necessary to adjust the settings of the energy-saving program accordingly to achieve a higher energy-saving effect.

3. Selection of inverter box structure

The box structure of the inverter should be adapted to the environmental conditions, that is, it is necessary to consider factors such as temperature, humidity, dust, pH, and corrosive gases. There are several common types of structures that users can choose from:

The open IPOO type itself has no chassis, and is suitable for installation in the electric control box or on the screen, plate and rack in the electrical room, especially when multiple inverters are used in a centralized manner, it is better to choose this type, but the environmental conditions are higher; The enclosed IP20 type is suitable for general use, and can have a small amount of dust or a small amount of temperature and humidity; Sealed IP45 type is suitable for poor industrial site conditions; The closed IP65 type is suitable for occasions with poor environmental conditions, water, dust and certain corrosive gases.

4. Determination of inverter capacity

Reasonable capacity selection is itself a way to save energy and reduce consumption. Based on available materials and experience, there are three ways to do this:

Formula method. When one inverter is used for multiple motors, it should be satisfied: the influence of the starting current of at least one motor should be considered to prevent the inverter from tripping over current.

For light load class, the inverter current should generally be selected according to 1.1N (N is the rated current of the motor), or according to the maximum motor power indicated by the manufacturer in the product and the output power rating of the inverter.

5. Main power supply

power supply voltage and shaking. Special attention should be paid to the adaptation of the low voltage maintenance setting value of the inverter, because in actual use, the grid voltage is more likely to be low.

Mains frequency fluctuation and harmonic interference. This interference adds to the heat loss of the inverter system, resulting in increased noise and reduced output.

The power consumption of the inverter and motor itself during operation. When designing the main power supply of the system, the power consumption factors of both should be taken into account.
