Sick Sensors – the principle and practical application of color mark sensors

Principle:

Contrast sensors are often used to detect spots on specific color marks or objects, and they are used to detect color marks by comparing them to non-color mark areas, rather than directly measuring color. The color mark sensor is actually a reverse device, where the light source is mounted perpendicular to the target object, and the receiver is mounted at an acute angle to the object, so that it only detects the scattered light from the target object, thus avoiding the sensor from receiving the reflected light directly, and the beam can be focused very narrowly. Both incandescent and monochromatic light sources can be used for mark detection.

Marking sensors are ideal for mark inspection applications in printing, labeling, and packaging processes. Using a very small focused beam and RGB tri-light source technology, the contrast sensor automatically selects the best color light source (red, green or blue) during the teach-in step. Excellent contrast resolution, high switching frequency (up to 10KHz) and 5-step margin ensure accurate detection and positioning, even when contrast differences are small. With the integrated IO-Link interface, the number of changeovers is reduced by remote teach-in and parameterization. Other control functions, such as monitoring, diagnostics and switching timer adjustments, are also available.

Real-world applications:

The color mark sensor detects a wide range of labels, even with subtle differences in the background color, and has a very fast processing speed. The automatic adaptation of the wavelength of the color mark sensor can detect small differences in grayscale values, regardless of the mixed color of the label background. When using a color mark sensor, it is often required to have only two color patches on the detection track, i.e., the background color and the color scale.

In the automatic control system of flexible packaging machinery, printing machinery, food machinery, textile and papermaking machinery, etc., the color mark sensor is used in conjunction with other circuits or devices to detect the presence or absence of the color mark printed on a certain color background or other pattern color blocks and line objects that can be used as markers, so as to realize the functions of automatic positioning, fixing length, color identification, deviation correction, plate alignment, and counting.
