Rack: Installed in a standard cabinet, it is a functional server, so the standard cabinet is also called a "19-inch" rack. Rack is a more professional academic term, and most of the current policy documents refer to "rack", and clarify indicators such as single rack power and average shelving rate.

2. a cabinet

Cabinet: used in network wiring room, floor wiring room, central computer room, data room, control center, monitoring room, monitoring center, etc. The stated dimensions are the width (48.26 cm = 19 inches) and height (multiples of 4.445 cm) of the server. Because it is 19 inches wide, cabinets that meet this requirement are sometimes referred to as "19-inch racks." The thickness is based on 4.445cm, and 1U is 4.445cm.

U is a special unit of measurement for the height of the equipment installed in the cabinet that is commonly used in the world, 1U = 44.45mm. U refers to the effective use of space inside the cabinet, and the panels of the standard equipment using the cabinet are generally manufactured according to the specifications of n U. For some non-standard devices, most of them can be installed in a 19-inch case and fixed with an additional adapter baffle. In addition to the 42U standard cabinet, 47U cabinets, 37U cabinets, 32U cabinets, 20U cabinets, 12U cabinets, and 6U cabinets are also commonly used cabinets.

3, 1U, 2U, 4U servers

Among the rack server sizes, the common ones are 1U servers, 2U servers, 4U servers, and some 6U, 10U devices, etc., the size of these servers is: 1U = 4.445 cm, 2U = 4.445 * 2 = 8.89 cm, 4U = 4.445 * 4 = 17.78 cm. In practice, 1U or 2U servers are the most frequently used. Because the service provider calculates the cost according to the server footprint, the use of 1U server is the most space-saving and the lowest price, but the scalability of 1U server is not as good as that of 2U server. The number of hard disks in 1U can be plugged in up to 4, and in 2U can be plugged in 8, in addition, the number of PCI slots is also different, 1U can be up to 2, and 2U can be up to 6.

4. Standard cabinet leasing

The carrier's standard cabinet is generally a 42U cabinet.

1) According to the width: 600mm and 800mm wide 42U cabinet, depth 600mm, 800mm, 900mm, 960mm, 1000mm, 1100mm, 1200mm, etc.;

2) According to actual needs: In addition to the actual use size is 42U, the width and depth can be customized according to actual needs.

There is a limit to the number of servers that can be placed in a cabinet, and a 42U height cabinet does not mean that it can actually hold 42 1U servers. After placing the server, you should also leave space for heat dissipation and movement, some space for wiring, and space for other devices such as switches, firewalls, and monitors. Therefore, how many servers can be placed in a 42U cabinet needs to be calculated according to the specific equipment. So the question is, how many server devices are generally deployed in a cabinet? Here's what to consider:

1) Reservation: Reserve 1U between each device for heat dissipation, reserve the switch position, and consider the PDU location;

2) Generally, redundant 10KW power supply is provided, and the static bearing capacity is not less than 1200kg (determined according to the construction parameters of the computer room)

3) Under the premise of not overpowering, the cumulative number of U of equipment in a cabinet is generally not more than 26U a cabinet, the number of 1U equipment deployed is generally not more than 16, the number of 2U equipment is generally not more than 12, and the total 4U equipment is generally 4 to 7.
